Maybe not then,was at school Feltham Middx thats just south of Heathrow,the Tanks were on their way to Ordanace works at Feltham Garrison maybe via the Tank technology place at Chobham Surrey just down the road,happy memories,around that time my uncle joined the army and bought me a Chieftan kit back from Germany it was bigger than the tiny airfix tanks about 1/32,I was by now smitten with the subject from then on,its been 43 years now

Yeah stopped at feltham a few times, past heathrow on the left, to the lights and turn left and i think it was on the right (been a long time). Can't remember the name of the place but it was military and after parking up we used to go inside the old buildings for a wash and brush up but i do remember it was full of maps, must have printed them there

thats the place,its where they invented the ordanace survey map,its called that because a general Roy of the ord corps made the first one of hampton crt palace and has a local pub named after him,they only make maps there now,so no more tanks for many years now,what did they used to do with the Chieftans there,

Nothing as far as i know, for us it was just an overnight park up or if we got there on a friday we left again on monday, So it's still there i thought it would have been a housing estate long ago

the army housing got sold off a few years back,the garrison and the workshops are still there its now got a purpose built 3 or 4 story window less building(cruise missile proof)high security for the map production,hardly any army lots of MoD police guarding it,you and your mates were stars to me and the other lads,sitting up there in the cab of the mighty antar as we called em!56 tons of Chieftan in tow
