Hi,

I've made the Guillows and West Wings aircraft and they generally tend to be in the scale of 1/18 and 1/24 and with care they can make up into very nice models. Flying wise they can be a bit?? and need careful weight and balance. Also unfortunately the tissue isn't always that robust and you are forever repairing the thing, or that's what I found with my Spitfire and Hurricane. I've scratchbuilt a few planes over the years from plans in radio control magazines and sometimes it's easier to scale down from a bigger plan, rather than up. I'll post photos of my Typhoon which was scaled down from 62.5inch wingspan to 48. Not quite finished.

Here is a photo of my nearly completed "Tiffy". I am hoping to get it ready for the next flying season. Let's hope it lasts as long in flight as it does in the making.

Who's gonna connect a karaoke machine up to the transmitter so we can hear the Merlin?
I remember watching a doumentary where a Typhoon pilot was interviewed and he spoke of them with a great smile, reminiscing how great an air superiority we had with very few enemy planes so spent their sorties pretty much making their own deciscions atacking any convoy or train they came across. DId I hear somewere about half the German tanks were destroyed by air on the Western front? A deadly machine but I'm sure many more Allies would have been lost without our air support. I look forward to seeing her finished, any plans for a name and a dollybird on her?

Was it a Merlin, Griffin, or another engine in the tiffy? Crikey I have not thought about the name actually, hoping I have got the maths right and the tail end doesn't break off in flight (like the early ones) I am sure it will be ok though. Can't wait to get it flying actually and straffing anything in sight, but a bit to do before we reach that point. I'll try and get it finished next month.

That's exactly what I like about flying electric, they are simple once you figure out the proper setup for an aplication, no mess either. The drawback is a lot of times they are so light they don't fly as well in wind, and we get a lot of wind here in the South Plains.

I have got a mixture of electric and glow plug engines in my planes. With the advet of the lithium polymer battery it certainly helps make electric planes a viable option. I still like the glow engines and the sound of them though and a re-fuel quick clean and off you go again. Of course napier engine I had forgotten about that one.

I certainly love the sound of the nitro engines myself and that can be a drawback of electric unless your talking about some of the higher RPM prop/motor combos or EDFs. The faster spinning motors like around 3000kv have a nice buzz to the prop and I have a RCLander F16d with a HET fan and 2W20 motor pulling about 100A that has a nice sound.

Saxondog wrote:I've looked at several electric fly German, British and Russian aircraft to try and find the right size for 1/16 scale. Well I have found all and move in rubber band/ glider kits from GUILLOWS. These are laser cut balsa, a better grade than their older kits but still build the same way, glued together framing, and modern duel coat covering.

Why can't this be easy? I really want a Stuka JU-87 Tank buster. In the correct scale, so why can the new electrifly model come with a stated scale? Instead a 50 year old company does. I have tried he math of scaling down from the actual aircraft but the scales seem closer to 1/12. Which I guess would be ok.

The Taylor Field club guys are building an airfield on the very nice battlefield so they got me interested in flying again. Anyone know of a JU87 STUKA ARF OR RTF MODEL? Or even a ME109 or FW190?

Here is a link to the 1/16 scale kits and the correct size of these WWII AIRCRAFT IN 1/16. Now the search begins for a flying model.

The only really scale "park flyer" is the JU by FSK "Flying Styro". in 1/13 scale; they have both winter and summer cammo versions and are around 30" wingspan. I have a number of their birds and make full scale landing gear for them... 1/16 scale is too small for fliers, and FSK is the only maker of really scale ones.
