Hi Rob, when Tony says 2 hours that was the paint job from start to finish - then I had some fun with the weathering, which again was no more than a couple of hours max. The figure probably took longer to finish. The main colour was from a a can, Plasticote grey primer from B & Q or many hardware stores - I think Hobbycraft sell it. I was putting it on as a primer/base coat but when I went to airbrush Tamiya German Grey over it, I couldn't see where I had been so I left it and then went over it lightly with Vallejo Modelair white, which went on a dream through the airbrush without any thinning, straight from the bottle. Tracks were removed and pinned to a board and sprayed with the same grey primer and left to dry overnight, even though touch dry after 30 mins. Then covered thoroughly with Burnt Umber oil paint thinned with white spirit painted on with a brush. Highlights of worn metal surfaces were drybrushed with Humbrol Aluminium. Back to the vehicle weathering, all bolt heads etc were picked out with a pin wash with a mixture of well thinned Burnt Umber/Lamp Black Oil paint mix. To get the rust run effect for the bolt heads etc on the body, simply brush on white spirit lightly with a clean brush and put a small "dab" of Burnt Umber Oil just below the bolt head and take a 1/4" flat brush and draw the paint down over until the paint fades out. This is a technique I have used may times on 1/35 models and works well on bigger scale. I used the same method on the exhaust covers but over a larger area. The numbers on the turret are not authentic but I just wanted simple nos. with no curves as I made up the mask from masking tape and airbrushed with Vallejo Modelair white.

Thanks guys, I have plenty of Vallejo greys and white, umber etc ...I might just give this a go. I have to say that the effect you have achieved is great, fingers crossed for my efforts! 

Maybe it's my airbrush, but I find that the Vellejo paint congeals around the nozzle in double quick time, even when diluted 50%. I will not be thwarted though!!

Hi Rob, are you finding that the Model Air paints are sticking or are you using Model Colour?

Have to agree with the other guys, its brilliant and makes me want to jump the gun and start on mine instead of the stug or my panzer IV which will only travel in circles!  Never considered a winter camo but that certainly gives me another option to think about, nice one.

They are Model Colour which may explain something. I airbrushed everything in dark grey this morning diluted 50%, and it didn't clog up half as much as the browns did when I sprayed the Bulldog. Going to play around with light grey and white now....

Wibblywobbly (love that name), vallejo do several types,the ones I use most are the panzer aces colour scheme,which as it says on the box are all related to armour,uniforms etc. They tend to thin quite well to be honest and there are some great colours.

What psi do you set your compressor to? Could that be the reason your paints doing what it does? I usually set mine(depending on the paint) to between  10 to 15psi and touch wood, so far haven't had too many cock ups.

Reference my last, dunno where you get your paints from but I tend to get most of mine from www.netmerchants.co.uk  . Great choice of paints and next day delivery which is just as well for me as I have the attention span of a puppy on uppers.

Like I said in the master class board, I saw this tank on Thursday and it has some of the best paint I've seen.

Thanks John. I will probably do a walk through on my next project on the same lines that Tony (Oz) did with the Kubel.

Something for the near future. One thing I must say about the wealth of modelling knowledge at the Washington club is that nothing is a "state secret" and all of the guys, barr none will tell you how, on anything you like about their subjects.
