Another day with more progress

1. Shaved/filled the remaining tools off the deck, have yet to decide on the Barrel cleaner clamps.
2. Mass 3D printing of a Bustle bin extension + mounts, designed and printed my own front Vent and also made a start on turret track mounts!

All in all at least a productive day!

I am impressed by your skill and patience: sanding off the relief-cast tools must have been tedious work with the potential for damage to the upper hull. Did you use a small electric hobby sanding tool? Did you cut off some with a knife blade?

I used a hobby knife, Snips and then different grits of small foam sanding blocks, some filling is still required wich takes me onto today's work:

I added conduit (copper wire) 1.5mm. for the bosh lights on the hull then proceeded to give the upper and lower hull their first red oxide Primer. Mostly to see the high and low points. So I can further fill and sand the hull.

Ouch: I know the feeling: primer always reveals little flaws in filling holes, seams, and marred spots. From what I have seen in the photos, you did remarkably well getting all smoothed out.

Its been a while...

So today I took the head staggers and decided to just paint the Tiger, I decided on a base coat of Dunkelgelb, I understand it is a later war colour on a early Tiger but I personally love the colour, stripes are to come as i need more paint for the wheels & sprockets!

Most impressive work.

It is now more commonly known that after the first possibly 25-50 Tigers painted Dunkelgrau that early (pre-February 43) Tiger tanks were also basecoated RAL 8000 for the "Tropen" camouflage scheme. This Tropen or Tropical scheme was used in the North Africa campaign But was also used on some Tigers that were distributed to the Eastern front units such as Das Reich. Starting in February 1943 an order was issued for RAL 7028 dunkelgelb to be applied as basecoat.

It's your tank and its looking great so be happy with whatever color you choose. I like both base colors and match them to whatever time frame the tank I am building supposedly was in service with artists license of course.

My only comment about your Tiger is at the point you are at with the great details that you are implementing. Please consider removing the mirrored spare antenna tube on the engine deck as this is a detail molding error on both Heng Long and Taigen. At this point it wouldn't be difficult to do and would be easy to paint and blend before you go further with camouflage and weathering.

As an aside note, here is a picture of the First Command Tiger "S01" of Das Reich where you can clearly see the horizontal spare antenna tube as well as the canted vertical "umbrella" antenna tube mounted on the Commanders side engine deck and rear plate. From what I've seen and read this modification was only done on this first Command tank and possibly limited others but I haven't seen any pictures of other Tigers with this mod. David Byrden and other Tiger Experts may weigh in.

I have removed a Stowed antenna, but I believe it to be on the wrong side I removed the spare on the right instead of the left.

If it is any consolation I always cut off the molded spare antenna holders from both sides before replacing the holder on the right hand flank with a 14cm length of brass tube mounted on 2 holders leaving the pipe a couple of mms above the tank body,
You can make the pipe holders out of 2mm spare plasticard with a craft knife,
Study a few photos and you will see what I mean.
The real early Tiger 1s spare aerial holders overhung the rear plate by a few mms later tiger 1 earlys the pipe was finished flush with the back of the body.

Thanks for the tip, yes going over my pictures from Tank Fest 25 you are right about the position, I think ill have to get cutting again and affix it on the correct side!
