Ah, Panzermechaniker: I live alone so 1/16 farm toys and AFVs are in the basement and two of the three rooms of my home. When I became a widower, I decided that having my free run of the upstairs would be at least a modest compensation for a dear loss. :)

I'm sure my Dad had an Austin Allegro in that colour. The funny(ish) thing is, at one point it had patches of grey primer on it, and it got the name 'the jeep'.

Yes - the Allegro. Most maligned car. I confess to having had one - two kids, down to one salary, mortgage rates at 15% or higher… cheap, badly built, but easy to maintain and not actually as bad as history records. I’m still living down the shame….

Austin Eggroll we called them
I never had one but did endure several other examples of English motors !!
Better than walking but not by much !!!

There's something noble about a homely car that's just a car, and its sole goal in life is to get you from A to B. Hey, my wife's first car was a 1984 Hyundai Pony with a 5 speed...which I taught her to drive. An A to B'er if there ever was one. One of the available colours was pretty close to olivgrun!

Mike.

Here in the States, I can only think the Chevy Vega or the AMC Pacer being class worthy of the Allegro. Maybe the Pontiac Aztec deserves a mention.
