Seems like the perfect opportunity to haul out an old HL KV-1E I bought with a faux KV-85 turret, and convert it to a proper KV-2. I'm thinking it's time to get all cocky and fabricate servo recoil and elevation mounts to use the servo ports on a Canshuo TK-61 board.
Appointment with cheapskate destiny!

Re: A Winter '23-'24 Group Build? A New Question

On Monday, Sept. 18 (see above) I proposed "Instruction" #2" above as: Start with an RC WWII AFV you want to (re)build. The electronics and suspension are up to you. I did so because early on MrChef wanted to stick to WWII and Kaczor had noted that 2024 is the 80th anniversary of D-Day. However, some are interested in Cold War and even contemporary tanks. Should I change the instruction to open up to non-WWII AFVs?

Why not. It’s just for fun and learning some tips and tricks. The learned techniques should be useful for any era model.

I will wait out this weekend (Sept. 22-25) for any more responses and then if the change is acceptable change the "instructions." We have time... and I need time to decide which tank I might do. Hmm... Sherman...? Russian KV-2...? (I already did a "what if" re-captured "Prodigal Son" KV-2.) Pzkw IV? Stug with Schürzen...? T-34...?

That makes sense to me. So long as nobody hangs a resin deck chair off the back of a Stug, then the tips/techniques/methods have lots of crossover. ;) ;) ;)

Ok, I'm absolutely in, regardless of what broader guidelines are accepted. As was the spirit of this when we first started talking about it, this is for FUN, Camaraderie, Sharing and maybe even Learning.

Ultimately its about fun & still ending up with a model you are happy with.

How about something like:

- All Plastic tank as base. They are the cheapest including postage.- Wheeled vehicles ok if not a tank.
-Must retain plastic tracks(these of course can be changed later at any stage.)
- Allowed to change gearboxes, drives and idlers to metal. These are generally available and cheap plus add reliability. You might have these in your parts stash already.
- plastic roadwheels to remain ( the annoying painting of the tyres is a test!) no expensive metal roadwheels with removable tyres.
- External accessories like stowage & P/E open. (to encourage creative use of brass etc?)
- Metal suspension arms open as some models come with them even tho fitted with plastic wheels.
- no printed parts unless purely stowage items. (removes the use of complex recoil systems and modification components)
- A winter theme paint finish (well its going to be summer here but winter up north) to set the mood. Good White-wash paint jobs are not easy.
- Stock electronics(stock being the system brand with the tank model) if you use a Tamy, well done, if you use a Hooben or Haya-you might get a clark etc etc.
- Must be WW2 dated '39-45'no what ifs.
- Any conversions must by styrene & sweat, not printed or aftermarket resin like Profeline for example. (encourages built-not bought)

Thoughts ?
These are exactly the guidelines I am going to follow. To each his own, it's the group fun aspect that counts most. I am in the process of pricing out a base model tank now.

Lets continue to talk it up. We should have a reveal for everyone to show what they are starting with on November 1st?
