Trouble with low profile gearboxes
Re: Trouble with low profile gearboxes
shafts should be the same length otherwise tracks won't line up on wheels. I put some pics in my PIII build post. I had to trim the gear boxes to get them to fit under the hull screw. Also used allen head screw..much easier to mount. I think I only used two crews w/lock wahser on each motor..Time to get yourself a dremel.....

Re: Trouble with low profile gearboxes
Sounds like I need a whole Dremel starter kit heheeee!! Luckily I know someone who can possibly lend me a hand with one. Forgebear has ran out of stock of the metal gearboxes and has gone on holiday for the week
so I can't do anything about them for now unless its possible to chop one to size somehow? I think it was his wife who sent me a PM and I can get a refund once I have talked to him
So I shall go ahead and order some from elsewhere for the time being and then I can get dremeling them so they fit perfect
Its so damn frustrating having my first tank out of action just waiting to play in the mud!!

Thanks FV!! Are the shafts easy to fit to the asiatams? Perhaps the ones from my plastic gearbox will they fit?? If its quite hard it looks like the asiatams are out of stock at all the favourite hotspots I wonder if Tankzone is any good as they say they have some on their website!

Re: Trouble with low profile gearboxes
you have to heat up the grub screw to get rid of the thread lock paste but they come out ok
not to much as you may kill the bearing in the end
the h/long plastics arent the same shaft im afraid :-\

Thanks FV!! I'll check those guys out in the morning, me and my tank need to rest for the night hehehe!
I got the wheels today I saw there were only 3 screws but luckily the idlers have their screws and bearings will attaching the road wheels work with the old screws from the plastic hull or do I need new ones?

Re: Trouble with low profile gearboxes
Things are looking up! I looked everywhere for a set of the Asiatams but had no luck so I treated myself to some 'temporary' gearboxes whilst I get my Asiatams sorted out http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Heng-Long-1-16-Panzer-III-IV-Rc-tank-Metal-Gear-Box-Kit_W0QQitemZ220443213511QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN?hash=item3353707ec7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 sure they are just the Heng Long ones but with that little piece cut out to clear it of that bolt in the metal hull and maybe (the plastic boxes seem to line up) drill some new mounting holes I will have my tank running!!!!!!!
I can't wait
Now about them road wheels can I use the screws from the plastic hull to secure them to the metal hull? If not can I get the right screws somewhere?
