I could be wrong of course, how could a 20 year professional hobbyist
make such a basic mistake.

Hi, yes the tank is performing all it's required actions.
The only thing I have not looked at is the smoke operation.
It's funny that I dismissed the polarity conflict, becos I couldn't digest in my mind the impact on the joystick movements, I assumed it would just cause a reverse movement problem.
I thought at one point it was the transmitter as I had to resolder wires that had come adrift ( my soldering is direr).
My whole combo must be an early production model as everything is hard wired, the later models have plugs etc

On the newer tanks you can switch polarity without soldering iron by just flipping the pin positions in the JST connector... :)

You probably couldn't wrap your head around it because the HL controller performs mixing functions between the two motors.
