Driving Realistically
Re: Driving Realistically
Whatever happened to people using the Graupner Speed 400s and Speed 480s? I remember tons of folks used to talk about them especially in Tamiyas that battle. I just wonder how they stack up in the pecking order.

Re: Driving Realistically
I'm relatively new to all this, but for my 2p worth I think all scale model vehicles should be driven in a realistic fashion, unless they are racing cars either off or on road. The crews would not set out to cross ground, knowing they would not be able to cross it or they would damage or break the vehicle. No crew would deliberately place their vehicle in a situation where it would become a target.
I try to drive my rc cars, crawler, and tank in the best and most realistic way I can, by planning ahead. Having driven full size off road vehicles, for pleasure and work, I don't get any pleasure from breaking or having to recover the vehicle.

Probably more people prefere realism than Formula 1 speed and super spinstankme wrote:Whatever happened to people using the Graupner Speed 400s and Speed 480s? I remember tons of folks used to talk about them especially in Tamiyas that battle. I just wonder how they stack up in the pecking order.

Sounds as if there’s more of us than I thought.
I just noticed my Tiger’s PDSGB starting to slip and spin freely inside the box somewhere when climbing a smallish step, maybe an inch or two. Used to crawl right up that same stepping stone with ease. Just for comparison I’ve ordered one of the new Heng Long versions from Forgebear. Then I’ll troubleshoot this DKLM unit. I’m curious to see if the HL unit fits the DKLM mounting system. I’ll report back.

Could you point me to the gyro you're using?Rad_Schuhart wrote:I also like crawling at super slow speeds. Seing tanks drifting kills me, lol. No point in creating a super cool looking realistic model if it drives like a F1 car.
About barrel stabilization: Get a 5 eur free shipping gyro and fit it. I have barrel estabilization in my T55 that way.
Re: Driving Realistically
Great update on the DKLM PDSGB. After seeing things in the daylight I realized that my front hull was hitting the stone face and wedging things to the point where the tracks couldn’t overcome the resistance. My bad! The winter lawn is much depleted and thinner compared to rich thick summer grass and there’s the difference. A much steeper angle resulted in this particular spot along my usual tank course. It wasn’t the PDSGB at all!
But anyway I still have a Heng Long version of this gearbox on the way and I really look forward to a comparison of the two.
I admit to being very impatient with things and this is a good example of that.

Very keen to hear your thoughts on the new HL gearboxes Jimster.
And for the record, I'm in the realistic driving camp too. There are no opportunities for IR battles anywhere near me so my tanks are backyard runners and I enjoy watching them crawl around at a steady speed.

Re: Driving Realistically
Its a good job i don't video myself driving in the real world, but for sure for these scale models, running max speed just looks silly. Its nice to piece together these models so you can slowly crawl thru the streets or moving thru obstacles and getting the vehicles to behave like they might in full size. I follow with interest and maybe try and post a few videos myself
