That is awesome. We rebuild CV12 engines (and CV8) here in Shrewsbury. I really want mine to sound like a CV12 and not some generic diesel

Only thing with a Clark board, your Heng Long transmitter isn't compatible.

go for the Clark board then it will be the best way and not to much work to get it going

Turns out the Tank Main Board is V5.2Image
and the Transmitter Board is 5.5Image

looking at the picture of that board it looks like one of the drive fetes is burnt

I think that should read FETs, not fetes. FET=field effect transistor, if I remember correctly. I also think, if you look at your photo, the second from the right of the 4 black square things (FETS) at the top looks discoloured. At this point I will stop, as my limited electronics knowledge is rathe aged.
