Mick this is the Internet you are not restricted to being thought a "loony" locally,
Your failings (If you actually have any) are even as we speak going worldwide. :lolno:
As to both Herman's and your comments on Gentlemanly behaviour I echo every word and it pleases me to know that I am not alone
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

The problem in the US is that everyone is gun shy to help or even be polite here. The other day there was a person with a physical handicap CLEARLY struggling. I offered to help this person. I ended up being yelled at and told to move along. I open or hold doors for everyone - not just women. Although I wasn't raised to say sir and ma'am I have adopted it into my vernacular as I've gotten older. I have seen women scowl at men for being polite. The southern US seems to be one of the last places where a man will get up and give a woman their seat on a bus or mass transit. I will admit I am more polite in person than I am on the internet. I still try to be polite and funny, but there is a lot of misinterpretation of the written word that is easily conveyed using body language and voice inflection if it were said in person. Therefore you have to go out of your way to make your words more descriptive. Most people are either too lazy or frankly too busy to take the time to do this. It's the exact reason so many flame wars start on forums. In a fast paced world people get impatient with the smallest inconveniences or get pissed off by minor stuff. People just need to relax and be considerate of their fellow humans.

Where i live in the uk there is a shoping area with a small narrow path, often i have moved out the way for people with pushchairs(baby buggy) and they just march past as if its their god given right......
I will give up my seat on a bus for either women or the aged.... I do sometimes help people in shops as being tall i am more able to reach the top shelf better than the vertically challenged..

@ Mr tankme.
Funny, many years ago I was in town on a VERY wet day, I noticed someone struggling to get into their car from their wheelchair, and me being me, I offered to help, especially as I knew how to fold wheelchairs.
I won't say here what he said, and what I replied to the rude ungrateful little shit, an "it's ok, I can manage" was all he needed to say.

As for giving up a seat, I'll save that for an elderly person who struggles.

I guess I'm just naturally mischievous in nature and my light hearted approach to even serious matters, though l make it work face to face, is easily misread when just in print (as here for example). So...

Let it be known that l am essentially a very polite, kind and friendly person who is always willing to help others in any way l can, always making time to understand and appreciate other's viewpoints and never criticising other's actions. No, really! Except Mick's :)
