They stopped applying it in the factories in early September 1944 and in the field, early October.

As for the Russians using magnetic mines, the allies didn't have magnetic anti tank mines. The Germans did, and thought the allies may have them too. Therefore, yet another unnecessary thing that slowed up German tank production.

The British in North Africa Had what they called "Sticky Bombs",
They were not Magnetic and would stick when thrown just as effectively to Zimmerit as to bare metal.
Perhaps someone can tell us more about "Sticky Bombs"?

From what I have read there is little evidence that the Russians even had any magnetic mines. Who in their right mind is going to stroll a mile across a battlefield holding a mine, in the hope that they can get close enough to a tank to stick it on the armour?

The Zimmerit was inflammable, hence throwing a molotov cocktail at one was just as likely to do some damage, and I seem to recall that this was why they scrapped the idea.

I see that they accounted for 6 German Army Tanks in North Africa which makes me wonder why they were not used more widely by Allied Soldiers.

Getting close enough maybe.

If you read the link...they couldn't, lol, the sticky stuff stuck to their uniforms, and as the pin had been pulled to activate the fuse they couldn't let go of the handle to get the mine off.
