I had contacted David Byrden of Tiger1.info. According to his statement it looks like a plausible late war refurbished Tiger.

According to his comment it is Zimmerit. When he allows I will post the complete info, or he might chime in himself.

There are 4 photos of this Tiger, see this page;
http://tiif.de/thread.php?threadid=15&s ... dd0255c330

This is apparently an old tank refitted late in the war, possibly one of the final
batch of Tigers from the factory which were all rebuilds.

The turret dates from Spring 1943. The hull and turret were possibly always together.

Its smoke launchers were cut off, probably in mid 1943. And that suggests
it was in service at the time, not in a training school.

It has Zimmerit added, new wheels and tracks, and a Pz4 bin.

Ownership of the tank is not yet clear.

It is kind of odd that a knocked out tank is shown in different positions and locations. I thought at first that it was camera angles, but they still don't line up. Curious to see if anyone has an explanation for the different locations.

Would make for an interesting build, though.

The hull mounted tubes are S mine launchers.

The small pictures on TIIF.DE don't open. It is a photo annotation website, not a gallery.
Son of a gun-ner wrote: Also you say the smoke launches were cut off, but it clearly has some on the hull? Or are they for something else?
Tigers never had smoke launchers on their hull. Those are S-mine launchers.

Son of a gun-ner wrote: I doubt very much the four pictures are of the same tank unless it went on tour, the first two maybe, but the third and fourth are totally in the wrong setting, or do you know if this tank was towed around and photographed?
Tanks abandoned on roads are usually in the way and usually get moved by the victorious army or the locals.

The fourth photo can be matched to the second by marks on the Zimmerit.
The others are, as you say, questionable, though the tanks are extremely similar at least.

Mick.

Thank you, I did wonder :{
No need to be embarrassed. The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked.
