All I can assume is the mounting holes could be lined up a bit different requiring a different turret rotation ring? Just a silly guess???
If that's the case that wouldn't stop you from using it.

I just noticed.....This has the 360 degree turret wiring. If you want that functionality you need the matching turret ring.

Or just cut a couple of teeth into the one you've got. Done several that way already.

You've swapped the turrets?
I was planning on using the default HL turret ring gear if it'd fit but I haven't seen any photographs of the bottom of the Taigen turret so I'm not sure if I'll have to drill new holes or not.
Also, I didn't even notice the Taigen turret came with the 360* wiring harness. Good eye! I can just cut a few teeth in the 'stop' in the turret ring gear. I was planning on doing that anyway.

I've swapped many turrets without issue. Sometimes I would improvise and add turret rotation servo or something from scratch.
The part of this hobby that makes it fun I suppose. Once you've been stuck after trying to figure something out you'll not be stuck on that issue again.... Maybe another one
I honestly never gave turret rings much thought. They should all be the same unless it's like my abrams that has a much larger turret ring and such.
I've also modded a WSN T-34 that one has a completely different turret ring look and with very little effort it works like a charm

Yeah, being 1/16th scale you'd think the turret rings would be the same size since the US had a standard turret ring diameter, which is why they could so easily drop the T23 turret on the tank to begin with.
I'll have the turret Wed. next week so we'll see soon. I hope it fits. If not, back to square one!

Build is under way!
I decided to keep the first build simple. M4A3(76)W VVSS. I had reservations about using the Mato turret since it's an "early" T23 turret with the split loader's hatch on an M4A3, but after seeing Creighton Abrams's "Thunderbolt VII", an M4A3 with an early T23 turret, I saw historical precedence, so away we go!
I also replaced the smoker with a TARR smoker Mk I
Now, here's my problem.
I got everything working - sort of.
1) Gun elevation/depression was reversed. Turned the plug around in the socket and it now works properly.
2) Airsoft unit would not fire a shot. Instead, no matter which direction I ran it, it would cycle continuously without loading an airsoft BB into the chamber and would never fire anything.
3) I somehow managed to smoke my RX-18's airsoft trigger. I think. Airsoft unit no longer functions. Old one on the 105mm turret no longer functions either. WHenever you hold the safety down and trigger a "shot" it skips the audio (like it's trying to mix in the gunfire sound) and nothing happens. No track recoil or anything.
I have a new RX-18 on the way, but does anyone have any ideas about the airsoft unit not loading a round?

Nice work. for the airsoft...sounds like it's not feeding. Check...
the feed ramp?
barrel seated?
gasket at end of gun and beginning of metal barrel warped or blocking breach?
cycling the correct direction? (not running the motor backwards)

Hi Rampage,
I'm interested in your build as I am doing a similar project myself with the HL M4A3. I'm only adding a Mato BB Firefly barrel and the radio box because I'm not too concerned with full accuracy, mainly because of the cost and parts compatibility and the build skills needed ... I also want mine to fire BBs still.
How did you stick your 76 barrel in? Mine is tight enough to sit straight but not tight enough that it wouldn't pull out with a tug. I wondered if I needed to glue it. The threads don't bite enough on the plastic mantlet. BBs fire through mine fine but I made sure the breech and barrel line-up and I polished the inside of the barrel with a .22 Air Rifle cleaning kit and so on. Also, my Mato barrel is what they call crowned on the breech end to ensure the BBs don't catch. Have you fired the gun with the barrel off or have you actually got a mechanism problem?
Regards,
Ron.

Hi Ron. Thanks for the reply!
The gun barrel was already fixed to the mantlet when I received the turret.
I got my new RX-18 and got it bound up. I reversed the direction of the airsoft unit and now the red LED on the mantlet comes on when I hold the safety and push the left stick up. I can hear the airsoft unit "clicking", like it's trying to fire a round, but I don't think it's actually pushing a round into the barrel. I don't even know if it's picking up anything out of the hopper.
I'm hesitant to strip the airsoft unit down since this turret's out of production and tricky to get ahold of now.
