tankfest 2009
Re: tankfest 2009
Unfortunately I can't be in two places at once and this year I'm off to play at Muckleburgh. Never been there before, it sounds interesting. Have a good time folks and don't forget to take lots of piccies

Do you mean the Muckleburgh collection in Norfolk? if so dont bother its crap......the wife is from down that way, we go at least once a year back to her home town and then crawl along the coastal road back to Kings Lynn and i have called in at Muckleburgh and nothings changed over the last 5 years. Its only a small place everything is squashed into one building, every time ive been ive only ever seen one tank running and it was a self propelled gun from the 60's....
Ive only been to Bovington once, about 18 years ago, cant remember much about it, but at least you will see Tiger tanks etc.......you wont at Muckleburgh.....i have some photos if you want to have a look but nothing special.

Hi Madbadger,
I've been to Bovvy numerous times in the last few years. If you go you will be impressed with the collections. Not so sure I can say the same about the management and curatorial side of the place though.
The Northern Battlegroup of the UKTC have been to Muckleburgh to perform a few times now, and have always reported a good weekend. Thought it was about time I gave it a try.
Oh sh*t! I've mentioned a "rival" forum now! Does this mean I will be banned from here?

Muckleburgh is a private collection, there isn't that much there, its more information than anything, you can have a tank ride, but its not always offered, like i said, Ive been 5 times and only seen that self propelled gun run once. If you are traveling a long way to visit, i think you may be disappointed. I would say there are around 8 tanks, nothing to scream about, and certainly nothing to shout about. No tigers etc.....its mostly british armour but not much WW2. Most of the tanks are from the 50's onwards. I have some photos, i will put them on my website for you to look at. I will do it later tonight just go to www.redlinephotos.co.uk
Im really looking forward to the tank fest, i especially want to see the tiger run....

I have been to both events with the UKTC and as Peter says Bovington don't help you out at all where as Muckleborough may not have the largest collection of tanks but the UKTC have free access to all parts of the museum including the workshop's we get a football field sized area to run tanks of various scales, they may not have the largest collection but what they do have is in very good condition and the owner and managers couldn't be more helpful the complete opposite of Bovington

Re: tankfest 2009
Well I've been there 4 times now, for long weekends and have enjoyed every minute, I appriciate it's not the biggest collection but bearing in mind it is as you say privately owned so doesn't get wods of public cash thrown at it. It may well be worth mentioning that the weekend Peter and the UKTC are attending is their military weekend so the MVT and other organisations will be there too, so it will not be just the collections vehicles.
As Rivet has pointed out they are very welcoming to us, we get access to area's not viewable by the general public, and best of all there is a shed load of tank friendly ground to run our models on, with no restrictions (well play safe).
As for seeing the Tiger, seen it several times, and there is one much nearer than Bovy to me
I believe most of the tanks in the collection are runners, but you will see the Abbott run the most as thats the one they offer on a tank driving day.
I think Rivets links speak a thousand words, you can't do that on a event day at Bovy

Very possible, obviously they would have to show insurance and police any BB's fired.Rivetcounter wrote: perhaps the club (IRAD) could organise there second meet at this event you will find the organisers very welcoming
