Hello Ben.
You may have been reading my posts recently , I to am new to the world of tanks and jumped straight in with the IBU3. I suffered initial problems which were not due to not understanding, more to do with the board not liking NIMH batteries and no one willing to tell newbies . That's in my arsehole smelly opinion , a little bit of snobbery going on with the old school and the new guys, that been said all problems were sorted with Ian and the IBU team sorting out issues with it working on NIMH batteries. So with IBU3 the support from Ian in my experience is above and beyond . Now the thing with the IBU3 is getting Quality sounds on it , which you will not really get from the downloadable sounds from Ibu or rc electronics web site . What you have to do is talk nice to Maxmekker as he is the king of sounds, and he will send you some files as will Ian and also in the download section on this forum Tao has posted tiger sounds that are really good. Also you need to be a little computer useful and download onlinevideoconverter then go to youtube and search for files , change to .wav then put what you like through Audacity and hey presto its actually a hell of a lot better. Its time consuming but very easy really, you cut and paste just like fuzzyfelt when you were a kid, only on computer . Also I have just bought a lipo 2 cell 7.4 battery [even i knew that  ] and xt60 plugs but I'm to scared to charge it yet .Maybe some of you oldtimers will tell us new kids what to do  Anyway heres a video link of my Tiger with engine sound from maxmekker adjusted in DB. and all other gun sounds , fire orders ,music, made by my newbie self with youtube audacity .Sorry the video quality aint so good , as my technological skills are crap. But i have more sounds to show off and will post more when i figure out how to do better videos . Oh and Ben you have come to the best place for Tank Info and help. Cheers

Hello again Ben
Forgot to mention , when it comes to fitting ,it is really simple , its a case of plug and play , no need for soldering or anything complicated . just push out and change round 2 wires in one plug that goes onto the extension port if you have the taigen model and job done .straight forward instructions from Ian at rctankelectronics . What makes this board is your time finding top quality sounds for it. I cant play my sounds at full volume as they are way to loud and without distortion. cheers

I use XT60s, too, and I really like them. Erik turned me on to those when I first got into hobby grade (along with lipos and how to use them) so I never tried dean's or anything else. The XT60s more than do the job, and they're really easy to solder.

Have you never charged a lipo before? Do you have a fireproof bag? I charge mine right by the back door (many people prefer outdoors) and I have the chargers and bags containing the bats in a steel box. If anything happens I just grab the box by the handles and pitch it out the door, but I've never had any trouble at all (knock on wood). But even though my experience has been fire and explosion free, I really do pay attention to safety, always use a lipo bag and a balance plug (the smaller of the two plugs on your bat) and most importantly of all, I stay in sight while the charger is on. That's the hardest one to obey, but I think the most important safety rule. Oh yeah, I have a bucket of sand, just in case. It fits neatly in the closet by the back door when not in use.

Sounds like you're finding your way around, but I was still sorry to hear you got flack. Have you figured out how to post video in your post instead of a link? I have a video somewhere on how to do that, but I'm pretty sure if you can do sound files you don't need it. So that begs the question, am I too lazy to use the link, or are you too lazy to post the video instead of the link?

:haha: @) :/

Hell Max-U52
Honestly I am surprising myself with the leaps and bounds I am coming on ,putting up with you guys. But I swear I don't know how to post instead of a link. But your scaring the shit out of me with this bucket of sand talk and charging out the back door. I have never charged a Lipo before and I have here a Turnigy 20-30 Discharge 5000mah 5.0 Lipo Battery and a SKYRC B6AC IMAX version2 charger . oh and yes a hobbyking fire proof sleeve, The battery has the 3 prong plug for balance and the charger has a port to accept this and I'm still pooing my pants. Why are there so many scare stories ,especially when Nimh batteries arnt up to the job. :wtf:

Very very nice Tiger

Have the neighbors come out of hiding yet? Lol

I like your choice of sounds good to see you worked out the wrinkles and are having fun!

I've had enough of my own electronic issues and it does make a big difference with the likes of Maxmekker and Mr Tankbear to assist you.

Keep up the great work I will keeping my eyes open for your future posts

The fact is that lipos can catch fire, but I've been using them for about three years and never had a problem. BUT, the possibility exists so I play it safe because I don't want to watch my house catch fire because I was too stupid to take precautions. If they scare you that bad, get a heavy extension cord and charge them outdoors. If you have a fire pit or BBQ grill that would be a good place to charge. Lay a cookie sheet on a patch of dirt and you're all set. Then even if it catches fire ... so what? You're out the cost of the battery, but the black mark in the dirt will rake out.

I think the main reason they get a bad rap and you hear the stories is because they get used a lot in aircraft and they don't react well to crashes. Most of the horror videos on youtube that involve lipos also involve a crashed aircraft. With tanks you don't have to worry about falling out of the sky. :haha:

Just use your head, common sense, and spend a minute thinking about what you'll do if the worst happens. Being prepared is 90% of it. Then go ahead and charge the thing, but don't go takin' a nap or running down for a six pack. You'll be fine. With proper protocol it's as safe as putting gas in your car. You do it all the time, but you still know to take care.

I agree with you Mr Max I have been working on changing my batteries to LiPo's as I add more electronics and bigger speakers gearboxes etc.

I always charge them in a safe place and watch them during the process (not every second) but within a quick look from time to time. As you said with proper protocol all is well with batteries.

I've had very good luck with them and find them to be very reliable.

Also very important to charge them at the right rate of current for the battery and have a reliable lipo charger of good quality to match

Always have to play safe
