Shaun, the board walk in Baltimore runs around the Baltimore harbor where Fort Mchenry is. The board walk you meant to reference is the one at Ocean City that's the one near the real big water that you call the Atlantic Ocean.

My father-in-law was a retired police detective. He use to squeeze their testicles til they confessed. Even if they were innocent.

My Gr-Gr-Grandfather was a Police Sergeant in Victorian Central Glasgow (the days of mutton-chop sideburns and whistles). His service record from the Mitchell Library stated: after 30 years service, he was "dismissed for being the worse for drink, and associating with a Brothel-keeper".. In all fairness,
nobody drank
water in
those days

. It was just too dangerous. Otherwise..not much has changed
I don't think that we'll be able to rely on
his ghost to help sort things out, though...

I am puzzled as to why your Gr-Gr- Grandfather was dismissed, surely the reasons given were in fact the prerequisites for the employment of a Police officer in any British inner city of that time
Shaun,

Shaun,

Indeed, Shaun. Workhouses of that period also supplied (very strong) beer for breakfast, lunch and supper too- for those not already horizontal. Modern day Methies ('Tennents
Super' slurpers)must regret their passing. In fact, he'd been up and down the ranks in 'dram'- atic style for decades. It was a slurp too far, and too often..
Interestingly, in those days, there were four grades of Constable and four of Sergeant too. He'd been all of them..several times
