Trust me It wasn't the Suspension that made them laugh, the combination of a body shape that made it impossible to work out where the corners were, a rhomboid steering wheel and reliability that all by itself kept spare parts shops in crème cakes.
At the same time we had an Austin 1800 and it was one of the best cars we have ever owned, just before that I had tried an Austin 1300 which was so well built that the ashtray which swung in and out from the facia lost its screw and dumped the contents over a set of regimental blues gaining me a very nasty look from the Colonel.
