:haha: I can just imagine your good wife's look, Shaun, if you'd reappeared in the house with a hairdryer sporting hints of Camo! Being divorced has its plus points though, and although i don't bother drying my hair (the Highland winds off the Loch/Atlantic do that very effectively) I have used a cheap hairdryer for painting jobs. I also found this link where a guy dealt with a milky krylon finish by using a supercharged hairdryer...a heatgun
(not recommended for tonsorial purposes :O )....

Oh my God, DO NOT TAKE A HEAT GUN TO YOUR TANK!! You WILL melt it!! Seriously I can not stress this enough! I have that exact heat gun in the video and I can tell you from experience that 100% it WILL RUIN the tank, no ifs ands buts or what's!

Please do not even try this it will destroy the tank!

On a serious note, a hairdryer (instead of the heat gun in the video) shouldn't melt ABS, should it..if used judiciously, Jack? If it did, that perm might turn into a 'short back and shine'...with third degree burns to boot. I linked to the video simply to show how heat can be used deal with the 'white glaze' problem. The heat gun might well be O.T.T, although I've used one with an adaptor, and very carefully- for heat shrink on wiring within a tank, without collateral damage. My heat gun has several different settings for a variety of uses; but I would use the hairdryer to dry lacquer on a guitar, and possibly a tank... If in doubt, though, experiment. The same applies to using the clear coat: try it on something less precious first. ;)

Maybe a blow dryer, but no way a heat gun.

Sorry if my reply came off harsh or like an ass it's just a heat gun is WAY too hot and would melt the tank. Sorry 43 I hope you know I wasn't trying to come off an ass.

Get some kitchen wipes, Dettol or the supermarket own brand, and wipe the tank over. It will takes several attempts, but it will take the top surface off and leave you with the paint underneath. The same happened on my Chieftain, you can see a slight bit of cloud in the pic but the whole tank looked liked that, but it looks as right as rain now.

Seems like a bit of a lottery this clear coat.
Mr Scalawag uses stuff out of the spray can, I use artists matt sealer (used to cover paintings etc) also out of a spray can.
No problems
I have used the Tamiya clear once, on my king tiger, and it was hot outside, real hot, and it went a tinge white.
Heat not the solution ?

I read this post yesterday and thought 'I'm glad that doesn't happen to me.' Then went out into the garage and applied a coat of Tamaya matt clear to the Tiger I've been working on since September........

As I started to spray. storm Katie started with a massive barrage of hailstones, I left the tank to dry and went inside to where my wife has her weather station readout 6 degrees C and 86% humidity and rising the barometer was dropping like a stone.

You can all guess what the tank turned out like!

I feel for you!
