If you are having difficulty with your stencils I would recommend using a "PENTEL PAINT PEN" they come with three different paint brush type tips, Fine, Medium, and Broad, The handle is the reservoir and depending on how big or small the stencil that decides what size Pen Brush I use for the outline. I bought mine from -
www.cassart.co.uk
There are a number of different "Paint Pens" on sale but most of them come preloaded with paint whereas the Pentel Pen Brushes give YOU the choice of what colour to use.
Also if you get paint going under your stencil you could do what I do and use a Marker pen in the same colour as your paint to follow and lay down the edge then you remove the stencil and fill the outline with a paint brush.

Simon, I should have said that I would not use "ENAMEL" paint in the PENTEL PEN BRUSH but ACRYLICS and CHALK BASED PAINTS are fine, Just run the PEN BRUSH under a warm tap when you want to clean it.
