Small updates:

This is the base turret for my conversion. Kit is from Chris. This is not for the faint hearted. The parts are from precision CNC cut out from a styrene sheets. I have to mention a lot of minor alignment needed to get the angles right. You need to be careful to zero in on the shape and accuracy. Reference are from multiple source from a real tank both from a Leopard 2A4 and Leopard 2 A4M CAN from my two Canadian tank commander friends that both served on this tanks. Total reference pictures for this build is around 7,000 detailed shots.

Just to let you guys know the lower end of the base of the turret which attach to the hull is to deep of an angle and if your representing a pure Leopard 2A4, then this has to be corrected. Since this part will be covered by the Add on armour then I don't need to correct this.

To mention the turret side angle on loaders cupola needs to be corrected as this won't match up on the angle near the blow out panel for the ammo store, Chris if you can update this on your data base that would be great (I have corrected mine).

Here are the progress of the base turret......Image

Corrected angle on the right side of the turret... Note the deep angle on the base of the turret. This needs to be long and shallow for the accurate Leo 2A4. Image

Thanks chaps!

I have almost completed the outline of the basic 2A4 turret. I have fully corrected the turret bins as the one on the kit is wrong. You can see the correct stowage bins. This is the basic structure and I will details this and make the hatch and hinges fully functional.

You can also see the semi circle cut out area on the right upper side of the turret near the commander's cupola. This is covered by a blank metal disc. On the Leopard 2A4 this is the area of the cooling exhaust for the turret's hydraulics however its removed and a blank metal plate is attach to cover this on the Leopard 2A4 M due to the electrically driven turret, which does not need any cooling vents.

Greets DNAR  ...I see you are on your way with your first Big Scale Tank :D ....I'm sure the work you've done on your 1/72nd builds will pour over easily to 1/16th....Like that Hull you got...the motors look Trick....also like the scratch building you've done...between you and ATC...You guys are giving me flashbacks to the glory years :{ (When I could see better lol)

I have a feeling this is going to be one great build

UPDATES:

1. This is the re-worked (corrected) geometry of the turrets lower part. I started on the right side of the turret (left hand side as viewed). Here you can see the correct triangular cut-out, this is larger as compared to the left side of the turret (right hand side as viewed) which is yet to be cut-out. This is very important to achieved the correct look as this is distinctive to the Leopard 2's turret especially on the version I'm going to make as the un-corrected geometry will be easily noticed behind the turrets armour.Image

2. Side elevation of the right side of the turret. Here you can appreciate the corrected angle just like what you will see on the real Leopard 2A4. The kit's original angle is to short and deep.

3. Quarter side view of the right side with the corrected geometry.Image

4. Here is the corrected turret bins. This is the left side with correct angles and extension as per Leopard 2 A4M. I have appropriately scribed the correct panels and added the correct panel on the aft bins as this is offset instead of an even side. Details are to be added one by one and bolt by bolt.Image

5. This is the upper and lower bolt lock of the aft turret bins. This is the correct details including the appropriate bolt heads. In the actual tank this could be un-locked and swings out to gain access to the posterior right turret electronic bay.Image

6. This is the correct detail on the right side turret bins. It is hinged and this is the pivot point as explained above.Couple of details are yet to be added.Image

7. A closer look at the hinged.Image

Thanks for looking!
