I've got the same diagram you have (from the Tornado publication right?). I've had a look but I don't have anything more detailed than that. I get the impression that the schurtzen just hang on studs welded to the rails. The studs passing through the small oblong notches in the schurtzen.

Thanks for the pics Pete, I remember following that build. Your Pz III still looks good.

Chris, yes that's the book. I was thinking of a small section of angle bar attached to the rail but studs would definitely work. Looks like the wifes sewing box is going to be raided again, those round head tacking pins have a multitude of uses.

Hi All,

I've managed to complete the hull schurzen for the left hand side of the Pz III. 
The brackets are made from 2mm wide strips of 1.5 mm styrene.
The front and center brackets on this side are identical, but the last bracket attaches to the air intake housing so that is a one off.







The rail is made from a 2.5mm wide strip of styrene channel bar that slots over and glues to the brackets very securely.





Having studied photo's, diagrams, and anything else to do with the attachment of schurzen to the rail I decided to use small pieces of styrene angle bar that slot into notches just below the top of the schurzen plates. They are just about visible in these pics.





The template I'm using for the actual schurzen simply drops into place on the fender and the rail hangers.
I'm surprised at how securely it is held in place and very pleased with the outcome.



I'll be doing the other side over the next few days then I'll post some plans with measurements etc for anyone thinking of going down this road.

An excelent tank . I to have been planing this build , my PzIII still in its box locked away as Im rebuilding my late war Tiger then thinking of the Firefly project . How come we all seem to get more than one project to do at once ? Nice work tho.

Firstly, sorry for the absence, things got a bit hectic at work for a couple of weeks.  >:(

Anyway, I've now built and scrapped 2 sets of turret schurzen for the Pz III. I just cant seem to get
the doors to line up correctly. While I'm psyching myself up to start on the third set I decided to give
it a coat of paint. ( The turret schurzen will be painted seperately. )

I used Vallejo Panzer Grey & German Dark Green, then gave it a coat of Johnsons Klear in case I bugger up the dark yellow over spray. hope you like it.

Hi John, nice camo scheme and great schurtzen. I'm into dunkelgrau schemes at the moment (as Tony (Oz) will verify). I'm also bracing myself (no pun intended) to make hull schurtzen for my PzIV when it gets to that stage.This PzIII build of yours has given me a few ideas.

Looks great.  Do you have a make or model or something like that for the tread plate?  I didn't see it in the earlier posts.
