Instead of N scale rails what about a small "I" beam from Plastrux? You should be able to shape it with either hot water or a blow dryer and roll it around the drum.

What I don't get is...there is a CNC machine....so it must be some kind of machine shop...they must have other tools in there than can replicate those drums...even proper rings :/

I could make the early rolling rings without the groove but I tried that and it's pretty noticeable. That groove is the main problem. I already made the tools to cut them, but I can't put them in the CNC machine. If I'm gonna make them on the CNC lathe I have to use the tools already loaded in the machine.

There's an idea, turn them on the CNC with the rolling ring with no groove, then stick them in my engine lathe just to cut the grooves. That might work.

Now to find the time!!

Another Suggestion...make the drums out of five pieces...the parts with the bands can be made in two disks...that way you can have the grooves...the rest of the drum...just do what you are doing...except with the finished product ..you glue 5 pieces together
top of drum ..one disk..center of drum...second disk..bottom of drum

I have a set of drums from Blue Star that are made that way, and in resin it's not the best option (IMO). But with steel that's not a bad idea, and I just may give it a try. Of course, the way I feel after work today it may be decades before I have the energy to tackle the project at all.
