I have magnets that are 25 x 13mm and are 2mm thick.
Super strong if they are sticked to each other.
And there's no way to get them apart by hand.
Even one, sticked to the side panel of my computer, I can not remove by hand.
So, I can't use that ones.

BUT... tadaaaa

I have also magnets that are cylindrical wide 6mm and high 7mm.
Also super strong.
Most beautiful is... the 6mm wide fits exactly in the posts? of the lower hull.

For the upper hull I need to drill a hole in the magnet for the screw to mount the magnets to the posts of the upper hull.

QUESTION IS:
CAN I DRILL A HOLE IN A MAGNET, FROM POLE TO POLE, without losing its strength???

I have just enough magnets (16) for the eight screw points.
Can't buy any new ones, I don't know where they come from.

The magnets mounted to the upper hull posts should go fit IN the posts of the lower hull where they make contact with the other magnets.

The magnets in the lower hull will be glued half way down.

If this whole project is not going right, I have a new problem.
The originally way to mount the upper to the lower hull is gone.



But first, that question is to be answered, if someone knows... please.

Hmm, if I can't drill, I have to glue them, but that is a very inni mini tiny surface.

Did you happen to find any cracks in your Hull Darkas....ATC was describing the problem he had with his on another thread

No, I just checked with a strong light and can't find any crack.
Let me see the exact point where to look, maybe a pic of your cracks...

And drill a hole in my magnets... also no.
Material is too hard to drill, I only see a tiny little point.

This is from ATC's build thread...we were talking about reinforcing the M1 hull when he brought this issue to our attention

Notice the white line. The plastic is stressed to the point of cracking. In other similar areas where the screw connecting the road arms to the hull are located, actual cracks are found.






The fix I came up with is having a strip of metal the width and length of that plastic tab glued around it, basically to act as a clamp that prevents the plastic from further stretching then cracking. For added measure (as the metal strip can bend), I applied Milliput all over the area to really prevent any unwanted stretching and cracking.

and it's almost impossible to drill into a magnet...they are composite made...the final compound is very hard and brittle

AFAIK, a magnet's magnetic strength also depends on its size so if you drill it it'll lose some strength.

He's missing pads... one is inside the tank

But again no, I can't find a crack... yet.
I'll keep a eye on it.

The cracks happened after running the tank hard for many days on rough terrain. I'm looking to order a new lower hull as a replacement.

Do you think the removal of the battery box is a contributing factor?...I know what some guys do is to fill the bottom with resin to stiffen the hull after doing that
