should i go for the Taigen or Tamiya whats the price difference in the UK?
i really like the sound of the metal parts make my tank feel heavy and real
can see me buying one then buying the other after i complete the first lol
That is what I did, I bought a HL Tiger, HL Panther, another HL Tiger, then a Taigan Tiger, then a Tamiya King Tiger, then the Tamiya Tiger, a Tamiya Leopard 2A6, another Tamiya King Tiger and soon a Tamiya Type 10. I should really get a Sherman or something not German after I get the one Japanese tank.
One is not enough!
It's worth noting that the Tamiya and Taigan both have metal hulls with plastic outers, both have the same metal suspension and idler system (Taigan copied Tamiya), metal sprockets, idlers and gearboxes. The Taigan comes with open pin metal tracks and the newer ones metal road wheels and a metal turret (I think only the early production and the 'Torro' version now but someone else can confirm) and hatches. Taigan (and Torro, which is an associated thing) has the benefit you can get both an early and late production Tiger. Tamiya only do the early production.
On the Tamiya you don't get metal tracks (but you can buy really nice closed pin ones) or the metal turret or wheels but the plus side is the wheels don't have a great big allen key in the middle so look like the real thing and how metal the tank will look is all in the paint job. For instance if you look at a real one, when you knock the paint off it's not metal underneath but the bonded red primer.
If you get a Taigen you can shop around in the UK to get a good price. If you go further afield you can get more of a selection:
http://www.rctank.de/TIGER-I_1. Or contact Forgebear on this forum and he can probably quote you a price for what you want. I would say it would be around £250 for a complete running tank with recoil if you dispense with frills like boxes to put it in. The stock electronics are serviceable but many replace them with other systems later on.
Also ebay can work, an example with the newer 2.4ghz controller:

For the Tamiya you'll want to look further afield. They're quite expensive in the UK and you also need to factor in the transmitter, receiver, battery if you want metal tracks for it. You can probably pick up the tank on ebay or a seller from Japan, Hong Kong or Singapore for £400. Metal tracks, depending on what ones you want from around £50 to the best ones which are near £100 then a transmitter/receiver like a Planet 5 for £50.
Sometimes, like today you'll find on ebay a bargain. It's not the best price but this guy is selling a Tamiya and HL Tiger for £400:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-r-c-ti ... 27f7830690. Looks like it needs some love though as the hull top isn't screwed down.
I would also say that if this is your first foray into military vehicle painting, buy a cheap 1:35 scale Tiger model, build and paint that first. Lots of people practice on test kits first before going all out on a big expensive kit.
