I just know ,and believe this Nation can and will turn around, call me stupid but I simply believe the American people will tolerate so much before they step in someones ass and demand an end to stupid. But hey I just turned 51 and still remember the madness here in 1968,National Guard deployed in Memphis twice in my life. the last time I was 15 and these guys were serious, get your ass home at 10 pm or else!
The first time I was 5 and only remember because of my dad being involved where he worked. And the terrible smell as no trash was picked up. Then the murder of Fr.King set the city off into madness at night. Ferguson will be another burning city soon, like L.A. IN 1992
Not sure I follow you so I'll keep my mouth shut till I understand 100% what you're saying.
I understand - I saw a couple of documentaries on it recently. Basically due to Iraq and Afghanistan turning into military policing rather than war fighting there was a flood of surplus vehicles and equipment the US military didn't want when they returned from these countries. Because they can't really sell on the open market they ended up going to various law enforcement authorities for a token cost. So now you have policemen and FBI using armoured vehicles and fighting equipment usually reserved for policing conflict zones by soldiers but being used on the streets of the US.
It's a situation which can be really negative. While there is no question that police and authorities need certain equipment to perform various tasks, however there's evidence that when provided with said military surplus they tend to go with that solution rather than softer approaches, more appropriate to police work. It's not got to the point of tanks but those big 20 ton wheeled APCs designed to withstand 37mm rounds and RPGs are in police inventories now. Pretty scary stuff.

Was lightly touching the topic before and I'll lightly touch again as I know "political" discussion can start trouble, even if I personally am not offended by it.
As far as "Freedom" the U.S. is far from it. This is an authoritarian country where you can be killed by government enforcers or have your assets stolen at any moment without even being charged. Slaying of civilians at the hands of LEOs in the U.S. are commonplace. Living in the U.S. is terrifying for freedom advocates. Instead of finding the police to be helpful people here are scared of the police.

Ok cool we're in complete agreement! There was a poll out a while ago on the countries that had the most freedoms and the U.S. was pretty far down on the list, hell Saudi Arabia was listed higher then the U.S.! I've said it before and I'll say it again we are NOT free in this country, far from it. This isn't the country I swore an oath to defend thats for DAMN sure.

I had initially written a longer post but cut it down as I "tested the waters."
I'm 30yo, I grew up with news talking about Ruby Ridge and Waco and the crimes of government how they can shoot kids and get away with it. I grew up in a firearms friendly family shooting as many as 2,000 rounds every summer at the family cabin as young as pre-10yo. My uncle is/was head of the largest pro-gun lobby in his state. I learned early on, through personal experience, that government isn't trustworthy. I was harmed and betrayed as a teenager by government workers (who now happen to be in prison). The sad truth is most of them get away with actual murder.
It's a shame.
