Crispy, The U.S. is TERRIBLE for stuffing crap down the throat of the whole world, somehow the majority of our leaders seem to feel its our duty to try to make the world like the U.S. when I can tell you from personal experence is NOT such a great thing. The propogandy that pours out of Hollywood when it comes to movies such as this really is a slap in the face to the other nations who just happened to be there during WWII. I fought for this country so did my father and my grandfather going all the way back to WWI and the direction it has gone in just the past 20 or so years sickens me no end. I don't want to go on too much of a tangent but I will say that what myself and my family fought for and almost died for more times then can be counted no longer exists in this country. They say freedom isn't free well neither are we.

I have a question for all those UK members and I mean no dis-respect so please don't think that i'm just trying to understand comments I've read regarding how us Americans "single handedly won the war". Who said this? If you're going to point your finger at Hollywood why bother?

The problem with Hollywood is if they're making films with fake stories in events that actually happened which then enters popular culture and people start believing it. I think what happens and we get these films over here and it completely ignores any other contribution by anyone else. Look at the film Patton, often heralded as a great film. Out of context he seems pretty awesome, put into context he fights already beaten armies and overlooks his overextension in France where the RAF came and saved him.

However Hollywood can make good, accurate war films when it chooses, like Midway or Thin Red Line. Why make stuff up when there are plenty of real good stories to be told, especially when you have the power to shape popular culture and sadly as a source of education when a film starts of telling the audience that this is a depiction of something that happened.

I don’t mean to sound critical of my English cousins, but Hollywood is located in California. They naturally make movies for an American audience which makes for an American slant. If you don’t like it, I suggest you encourage the BBC to make a film about the British war effort with similar production values as "Fury". I don’t think Hollywood has English viewers in mind when pitching war films to the producers. It is a business in the end to make money by entertaining, nothing more. As far as Patton "overextending" himself and needing the RAF, I would like to see sources please.

As far as the Tiger scene, I failed to see why an experienced tank commander would drive across an open field when clearly at the distance they were fighting at, the High Velocity 76 of the E8 could penetrate a Tiger with no need to hit the rear. I guess it can be attributed to again, entertainment.

Watch some of the documentaries on WWII and to hear how the higher ups thought is horrible! They KNEW it would take 4 to 5 Shermans to take out 1 Tiger and they didn't care because as they said we could always build more Shermans. Ummmm..... WHAT ABOUT THE MEN INSIDE OF THE SHERMANS!?!?! Acceptable losses and no one cared. Wonderful shining example to set for the world!

Boy Sure Glad I didn't go see it ...just my two cents... Hollywood has made a lot of great war flicks...
ENEMY AT THE GATES...true story with a little artistic license
BAND OF BROTHERS...true story with a little artistic license
BATTLE OF BRITAN .... little boring ... but still a good war flick
DESERT FOX .... didn't have the advantages of modern tech and Cg graphics... but it was good
there are a few more...

I have to say... seeing how this conversation has turned out

I am definitely waiting to see this on DvD

Unless you have a home theater setup with a big screen and premium sound, you owe it to yourself to go and see this movie at least once at a Cinema. I went with no illusions about a 'story' and to see _tanks and tank warfare_ and was not disappointed. The sounds alone were breath taking and gave me goosebumps. There may very well be excellent big screen tank movies with 'real' tanks in the future in our lifetimes and then again, there may not be.

After reading over the debriefing.............. it doesn't sound like a relaxing movie ...I'll wait...have a decent system at home...where I can vent any feelings in private
I have a different strategy... by not jumping on the bandwagon to see this movie...the faster it will come out on DvD

I have to say the last 30 minutes or so was utter rubbish and bordered on ridiculous, it really left a sour taste in my mouth. I was thinking the Germans were going to have to call in Steven Segal or Chuck Norris to finish off the Sherman.
