This is just awesome, would be good if the sub was an rc model that could be delivered and used.

LOL yeah that would be super cool... the problem with this set up is that the sub is way too small...totally off scale...O scale translates to approx 1/48 ...I would say that sub is about 1/2000 scale ...that flat car in real time probably wouldn't support a 1/10th segment of a nuke sub
Lionel used to make a cool sub car...the sub was like a DSRV and had a rubber band powered propeller ...they did a repop of it....the originals go for around 500 dollars now...it's really interesting how certain engines and cars in the hobby actually appreciate no matter what the economy is like

Recently, I was able to visit Japan, and one of the things I got to do was visit the Battleship Yamato museum in Kure. They have a huge 1/10 scale model of the ship that ANY self-respecting geek modelmaker would be interested in seeing in person. Anyway, nest door was the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force museum, and between the two museums outside was this decommissioned submarine. http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/ ... museum.jpg

So, when someone says that a submarine won't fit on a flatcar, this picture ought to really let you know why!

Have seen how they transport those subs though... they use really heavy depressed flatcars..and carry the "modular" sections to the shipyard where they are welded together

On the subject of rail transported submarines the Russians used their railways to transport a sub across the trans Siberian railway in the sino Russian war.





The Germans also use rail to transport subs in ww1 and I believe the type 2s operating in the Black Sea where rail transported part of the way.

Looks like MTH units Jake.... Novelty cars are great!! no matter what brand...the Lionel pre war and some of the Post war cars are worth hundreds now...the repops are cool though...as they have better trucks than the old ones...that's how you can tell the difference ....I have to say though... I don't own any ...too much cool ..there are over a couple hundred Novelty cars ....but if you like them ...they make cool collectables.... and only appreciate with time...best if they have the boxes included

If you do start collect them..make sure you pay attention to the specifications...some are two rail ...the others are three... My collection is comprised of three rail ...this is important because you cannot mix and match them...the two rail will short out on the three rail tracks...and the three rail might short everything to the control unit..maybe even cause a mainline fuse to blow ..


This is an old Lionel ...in great condition worth close to a hundred dollars...not bad for something that sold for two dollars back in the day
The old Lionels always had some kind of load along with the searchlight ...like that flat with the coil.. the coil would be on the same flat as the searchlight


But you know Jake... now is the best time...Christmas is on it's way...nothing like a nice Choo Choo running around the tree

Seriously though...back in those days the subs were smaller.... this car would never be able to hold a Sea Wolf class sub....and those are dwarfed by the newer nukes


Have to admit though...this car must be OOP... or something...because it sold for close to a hundred... it's a MTH too...so a relatively new release
