Something that no one has mentioned, and I am only mentioning this in case you weren't aware. The HL IR is totally incompatible with the industry standard, which means that if you want to take part in IR battles and have realistic sound you will have to remove the RX18 and IR gubbins and install an aftermarket board.

There are numerous ways of doing this, and some cost little more than an RX18. Once you have converted the tank, the HL transmitter, either 27mhz or 2.4ghz becomes redundant as well. So you need a new transmitter.

The quickest and least complicated route, and one that has various advantages, is to spend less money on the tank, as you don't need the standard electronics, and spend the money on an IBU2. Tankbear can provide you with prices.

If you are running a tank around on a hard flat surface, in all honesty a metal hull won't give you any benefits. I have never had any problems with all plastic tanks, they run over anything very nicely both flat hard and rough terrain all day long.

The best upgrade you can fit to any tank is the electronics, they absolutely transform it in ways that you won't appreciate until you have done it.

I knew I'd need to replace the board if I went down the IR battle route hence considering making a KV from parts rather than upgrading a kit - I also wanted to mess with the innards so figured if I built myself it'd make more sense. I wasn't aware the HL transmitters wouldn't talk to an IBU2 (or similar) - does make buying the slightly cheaper BB T34 from Forgebear an easier choice too. The first one will be a toy/test bed.....

hi rob W I have bouth the kv1 & now the t34/85 with the new 2.4ghz ,& like bouth , the kv1 has an asiatam recoil fitted as well as metal exaust`s & proportional smoker ,& so far I have replaced the grab handles with metal one`s made from paper clips ,add`d the louvers to the rear as well as metal hinges to rear engine deck & wire to simulate pipeing to rear oil drums ,as yet have got to add asiatam recoil & proportional smoker unit ,tanker 242

Cheers. T34 arriving tomorrow from Forgebear (Parcel Force permitting!). It's the slightly older 2.4GHz set, but suspect smoke & sound won't get used much.

It's arrived. Couple of false starts getting the transmitter to switch on (must be sensitive to battery movement), and main battery on charge. I assume the front lamp flashing & nothing else happening means there isn't enough power?

On the smoke switch, instructions say A off, B on. What does C do?
