I know yall ain't dissin us. We do have tanks though, Leopard 2A6's to boot when I left the forces in 1996 though my rifle was an FNC1 ( I think you brits just called it L1A1 or an FN ) I still remember the mfg date of 1957 being stamped on it lol

OH the SLR, The British Ministry of Defence sold them to the Indian Army when we had finished with them, they were alright but suffered a number of failings in my opinion, you could not fit a scope, they were single shot unlike the FN which had full auto, although our Armourer showed me how with a file/rasp the SLR could be easily altered, great if you did not mind the resultant Courts Martial! and the damn thing could jam, an easy fix, just move the gas plug two notches higher, what I did like was they were available in three different sizes, so you could get one to fit whatever the length of your arms. shaun

Oh boy, the rumours and innuendo...

first, we did not buy our F-18's used. In fact if it weren't for the Canadian military airframe techs figuring out what was causing the cracking at the root of the tails and the cure, you might not have them around for your navy and marines.

second, we are a small country and yes, do not spend a lot on defence and should spend more, but we do with what we have and try our best. If you look at our blood spent in Afghanistan we actually had the heaviest casualties per soldier deployed of any country with a combat mission there.

As for Russia, do not underestimate them my friends. all we have to do is look at the last 500 years of history they always win in the end. It costs much blood and misery but they come out on top eventually. That is when fighting on their own turf. I do not speak of their misadventures in other parts of the world. Their leaders always play the fear of attack card. If we don't do this we are threatened. Having been invaded so very many times in their history it still to this day seems easy to convince their general populace of this fantasy. They are a brave, warm, resourceful, stubborn people that unfortunately cannot seem to move out of the shadow of dictatorship....

I leave you with the old story of NASA spending a million to develop a pen that would write in zero gravity and perform even after being subjected to the G's of lift off and return. The money, the blood sweat and tears, the skill, all incredible to behold! The Russians? Faced with the same problem they sent their cosmonauts into space with a pencil and a sharpener...

Now if you were a Strategist for the Soviets... what do you think they might have gained from this exercise?... a flight route?....intercept response time info?.... opposing pilot skills?...makes you wonder if they will try it again will a larger force

There is far to much knocking of matters Canadian, I would like to remind you of just two aviation projects far in advance of anything else out there, The AVRO ARROW, Which was cancelled as it was about to be released for production due to Government pressure from a country south of the Great Lakes! And the only viable Flying Saucer was designed and built in Canada admittedly using American money and the thing had all the flying abilities of a dead Rhinosaurus BUT it flew. shaun
