Update; Ok so after 2 VERY long weeks moms out of the ICU! She's isn't in a "normal" room but what they call a step down room from the ICU. The infection as almost all gone, she can get up and be moved into a chair and she's walking around a little bit. The drains have been removed from her neck and chin and mouth and now they just pack it with gauze soaked in antibiotics to work on any nasty stuff that may be left, they change out the packing twice daily so she's still in ALOT of pain due to the packing and unpacking of her face.

The latest from the dr.s is that she may have to have reconstructive surgery to rebuild her mouth so can be fitted with dentures so she'd be able to eat real food.

So at this point she's doing much better thank God!

Very good news again. Your Mom is a fighter it sounds like. Hopefully, she will be home safe and sound soon.

Sounds like she has quite the journey to go Jack....At least there is light at the end of the tunnel though...and things are looking a lot brighter for her...Great news... will keep positive thoughts and prayers going for you..... all the best

Jack, I reckon both she and you have been overdue good news, nice to hear you are both getting your entitlement. The prayers continue. shaun

Been a while so here's an update if some be wondering. Moms in a rehab center now learning how to walk, talk, and swallow again. Apparently being in a hospital bed for almost a solid month takes its toll on you and it becomes hard to walk so she's in PT for that. A speech therapist is helping her with her talking which she sure seems to have down pat! As well as she has to learn to swallow, again being on a feeding tube for almost a month as well as the surguries she had she needs to learn how to swallow properly again. She says its not easy but for the life of me I can't see it being too difficult, guess thats why I'm not a speech therapist. According to the rehab centers "math" she will need to be there 4 days for every 1 day she spent in the hospital so that means she won't be coming home till after the new year but she says she'll be home by Thanksgiving or at the very latest Christmas but we'll see.
