If you do get metal tracks, the only upgrade you'll need is:
http://www.etoarmour.com/product_detail ... tID=T10025. The stock track tensioner is fine (unlike the KT, which is terrible with metal tracks) and fairly robust once in play - you may only want to consider changing the head from a screw to a bolt but its just convenience. ETO do these as well.

Bill, will the stock gears and motors hold up ok with metal tracks?
I'm broke now (getting married on e 21st

) so the metal track will have to wait a bit.
do the taigen, heng long ones work on tamiya ?

The stock gears and motors are very tough so no issues with metal tracks. Not sure if HL tracks fit, can try at the weekend and get back to you.
