(Plus, I'm totally sending that video to an old friend of mine, Tovarisch Starshina Katya Ilyavich, and demanding to know why she didn't look like some form of mutant cabbage patch doll while singing Katyusha the last time we got to ride around in an armored column...)

It's a sort of 'alternate earth' anime, where the national sport for young women is driving WWII tanks and shooting live ammo at eachother. But don't worry, the tanks have a protective coating, so the girls don't get hurt.

It's a harmless but rather fun show with 12 'real' episodes of 25 minutes each. The characters are remarkably un-annoying and the tank battles are just glorious.

Here is a so-called 'AMV' (an Anime Music Video) with some of the show's battle footage set to epic music. The show is nowhere near this 'dark', it's actually a very friendly and lighthearted show that just happens to contain epic tank-on-tank action.

If you do decide to watch it, watch the subbed version. The dub is just terrible.

Hi Serge... as Lert explained... it's a Japanese Anime...it's what I model my tanks after.... pretty light hearted .....humorous with a light touch of old fashioned competitive violence
I highly recommend it... the tank battles are great... then after you get over that... the historical references are layered throughout the storyline
the best is to google then stream it... the fan subtitled versions with japanese dialog are the best to watch

So I watched some of those Girls Und Panzer episodes... holy cow the tactics are atrocious (seriously... T34s on point when you have perfectly good IS-2s in formation?! ? ??? ??????? ? ?. And why does it take them 5 episodes to suddenly discover that the hull gun on the Lee isn't just there to look pretty? I mean the turreted gun is more for show than anything, but the 75 in the hull is their main armament and they hardly ever use the thing. Also, who thought it was a good idea to fire an assault gun while moving? And while we're on the subject, since when does a Churchill VII [or a Matilda II for that matter] move fast enough to keep up with a Pz 35t? So many questions...).

Anyway, I've been meaning to ask. Is there a way to convert static model kits to RC vehicles? Because I found a 1/35 model of the tank one of my grandfathers trained in (the Hotchkiss 39(f) mit Panzerwerfer) and after I build it and paint his name on the side I'm probably going to try to find a 1/16 scale one for RC matches.

What you saw is the first few episodes...the last one was a compilation...did you not notice the paint jobs Oarai school was very green during the first few eps... they didn't know anything about tankery...it wasn't till the match with Pravda did the team really meld together ...Your questions can only be answered by watching the anime in it's entirety

The best answer for this is Yes... If you can find the old tamiya 1/35th scale remote tanks (wired ) you can take the gearboxes... (some were metal)... and wire them to an rc board instead of the wired handset you would probably need the same set up in 1/16...as the chassis on that is very narrow... fitting the normal sized gearboxes would probably be impossible...as with the T38 Panda Kit...or the verlinden Stuart..the other obstacle would be the suspension bogies and tracks

Never even seen a model kit for that big beautiful oddity... Nor for the T-100 (which looks almost identical except for the turret mounting tower, which is squared off at the back of the 100). Some of the crazy designs the Russians came up with are just funny to look at... though nothing is quite as loony as the T-35 Heavy... That thing... just... yeah. 5 turrets is just a tiny bit unnecessary in an armored vehicle right?

I've seen 1/35th scale kits... but nothing bigger than that...Sassgrunt's chassis is really something to see... as he is a detail oriented builder...and has combined a couple of heng longs to get where he is...trying my best on this end to get him to post some photos of his builds... he has a lot of interesting ones going...even the captured T34
