Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
Re: Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
It is coming along very, very nicely. Looking at the great job you did on drilling out the holes in the commander's sight makes me envious of your skills. I tried to drill out one of the Schumo metal ones, and that was a miserable failure; so I decided that I'd better hone my skills by drilling out a plastic one. Of course, that didn't work out very well either; so now I just leave them be. Ah well, I guess I'd just better stick to modifying wheels and sprockets - no tiny parts! -Mike

Re: Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
Good Morning, Sir,
The metal Schumo sight on 'Maxene' required me to drill and pin it back together after I broke it while working on something else up there. It is just a fragile part. ;o) Nothing taken away from your Skill-Set at all. If I didn't have a giant magnifier mounted on the Tensor lamp and a micro drill set and yankee drill to use them in, I could not do half of what I attempt. Even then, I believe I have a piece of one of those needle drill bits in my thumb still *chuckles* Keep on tanking, Mike. ;o)
warm regards,
Painless

Re: Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
Received a very cool 2.4GHZ set, TX and spare lower hull for the Mato Sherman from Sassgrunt in the post on Friday. Thank you very much, my Friend. Spent the next couple of days acclimating a new Puppy to the house ( Waylon ) and was finally able to grab an hour tonight to go back to work on this Sherman. Drilled out the tow lugs and scrounged up a couple of hooks and fabricated a couple more along with some bent brass 'steps'. Pics:

Re: Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
No post thrills today but I was able to locate a progressive smoker, tubes and on \off switch and get that ordered. It should work fine with the Mato M4A1 as there is space and a slot for the missing on\off switch for it. Tonight, I added some Schumo vent grills for the hoods on the back deck. I had them set back for this tank from some time ago. After that, I removed the oversized guards and lift hooks from the upper hull and deck. Cutting a piece of tubing provided the mount for the massive idler adjustment wrench. I may drill and pin it, depends on how detail crazy I feel by paint time. Pictures:

Re: Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
Good Morning, Gentlemen,
Thank you, Cup. This is a filler build that I have been promising myself to do for some time. With the experience gained from 'Maxene', it is turning out a lot better than I anticipated. Quicker as well. You're right, Herman, that _is_ a good movie title. Waylon is a handful right now but I expect that he will grow into a great dog. He has a lot of heart. How is that Tiger 1 of yours coming along, my friend?
regards,
Painless

Re: Crazy Joe's Sherman Rehabilitation
No joy in the Post today but there are still some things that I can accomplish on my dwindling To-Do list while I await parts and pieces. Tonight, I made up a couple of periscopes and mounted them in the Commander's hatch and Loader's hatch. Both periscopes required some slight height adjustment so that the hatches would close completely. Also, I mounted the lens all the way inside. Finally, I added a semi circular pad to the Loader's hatch. Both of those turret hatches are ready for detail painting. Pictures:

Paainless,
You are going to have a sweet collection of Shermans. Really enjoying all of the progress on the Allied armor collection.

Good Morning, Pale,
Thank you, Sir. How did you wrangle a trip to the UK in August? That's a huge deal (especially if you make it to Bovington) ;o)
