I charged the battery for 4 hours like it told me to but I will charge it again today and see if it works

Hello crazyblonde... I read that forgebear already mentioned the crystals... and since you have your controller working... and your tank battery charged... my suggestion before giving up is... make sure the "PINS" in the battery connectors are fully pushed into he "PLUG" housings... also... about the crystals... sometimes just pushing them in doesn't do a thing.... what you should do is pull them out completely then shove them back into the slots...also make sure your antenna is screwed in and extended at least half way
I have had this same problem with some of my tanks.. mostly due to mishandling by the post guy...but have been able to get all of them working with a little bit of patience and trouble shooting

I was going to add that the HL handsets don't always allow for all shapes of batteries - I use re-chargeables from Maplins here in the UK and they sometimes need a little padding with tin foil to make the connections...
However since you have the red light showing the issue seems to lie with what is inside the tank. After you switch it on (underneath) are the headlights flashing? If not there is no power from the battery...
