Darren, not certian what the problem is. But from you picture of the control unit I can tell you that is a RX18, which is usually quite robust. All I can think is maybe a ESC become damaged. If you take the lid off the RX18 near to the motor sockets you see four black transistors (and there is another four behind them) and see if there is any visable heat damage or something on them.

Hi Ian - Here's a rundown of when the tank worked
1 - make sure all batteries are charged.
2 - turn on remote, make sure trims are correct.
3 - turn on switch on tank...lights flash until start button is pressed.
4 - Tank sound fires, lights stop flashing, tank runs!!
NOW - plug battery into tank, the right track starts turning emediately as the lights are flashing also...The flashing lights indicate safe mode until the start button is pressed correct? Maybe i burned a throttle FET?

Opened up the X18. Nothing smells burnt. This is a leap or me...Just a unit that went bad? If so, can someone tell me where to get a one-stop-shop for a new 2.4ghz complete system on the cheap - er - cheap as can be with a bit of simplicity?????

Well, you can try switching the motor plug to see if the same thing happen to the left side (i.e. it keeps running). Next I would unplug both motors and fire the baby up and see if everything else works. With the HL electronics, if one thing is stuck (i.e. right track) nothing else will work. See if the firing stop when you unplug the motors and fire it up.

I still think you are better off replacing the RX-18 right now then upgrading. You can getit for cheap ($20) if it turns out to be the RX-18. It would be very strange though as Ian said, they are quite robust.

Anyway, I would try to narrow down the functions that are not working first.

Swapped right for left..Left side turned..Think this x18 is toast. Nothing else worked also., sound etc..startup noise...nada. Will buy another X18 or X20...See what happens...Give me a week..Local hobby stores don't carry any of this stuff...Night all.

What do you all think of this upgrade? Plan on ordering from immortal -
1 - TK-22 electronic control board
2 - Dragon ATRC
3 - Turnigy 9x Radio

Is this a simple swap? Or am I getting in over my head. I just want a rock solid electronics setup for my bulldog M41A3.

Morning Darren,

If you go for the clark TK22 or TK22 you will not need the Dragon ATRC. But will need hobby grade radio and receiver if you haven't already a set.

I've fitted a couple of TK20 in my tanks recently and think it is a brilliant upgrade option over the HL, better drive control, better sounds, Tamiya compactable IR system and fully programmable. The TK22 version board has a few more features like servo gun elavation control (TK22 uses the HL motor elevation), momentum.

Good morning! Would the Turnigy 9X radio do the trick?
Also - you said programmable. Is that fairly straight forward, or a complicated process?
I plan on keeping my airsoft function also since I have the gun shooting well. Are these non issues with the TK-22?
