painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
This may not go over well,Steiner and Oz I started over. The more I looked at the pastels turning brown, the running of the polish and my creeping death turret is finished I decided to start over. This time I have all the material needed to complete each stage without delay, only waiting for each coat to dry.Allready today I have sanded reprimed this morning and repainted base coat, including all parts.I will allow tonight to dry and in the morning apply the lighter highlite greys.Sax

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
hi sax.
this may sound a bit odd but in a way i,m happy you started over, it means you were not pleased with the way it was going and are prepared to do it over again to get it the way "YOU" want it looking.
you did the right thing, you had two choices start over and get it the way you want or carry on and finish it off and every time you look at it you,ll be thinking.......... ( i should have done this or i could have done that or i should have done the other ) welcome to the world of pro modeling my friend
.
...........................cheers oz. ps any help i can give just shout mate.

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Thank-you,Oz I am grateful for your support.I want a certain look so to speak and it just was not right.I am moving more deliberate with each step, also have practiced quit a bit on card board to learn different spray patterns and paint to thinner ratio. After this I intend to change to TAMIYA Paints for the 1/6 scale TIGER VI.Also today was informed that UPS is paying the vendor for the damage, and they are sending me a check that will cover sprockets and some of the cost of parts from MARK1.I will wait to post pictures as I want to post from start to finish in consecutive order, thought that would be a good way,all the threads tips in one series of pictures. Thanks again OZ,oh and by the way seems military might has some custom tanks for sale hope that has been helpful to your situation,Sax

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Well here are some pictures of my latest paint work,I used a different mixture for the scribbling,Same base coat of ModelMaster SCHWARZGRAU 39-42.Did not thin as much this time ratio of 50-50.Also more coats of base, applied over longer period of time allowing each coat to fully dry.For the lighter grey scribbling I used a mixture of German uniform fieldgrua,Lich grua, and lich white. This seems to have worked out as the shadowing effect is deeper. Then on to the pastels, the last time the pastels turned a shade of brown, which I did not like. This time I used more red,and black for the weld seems, fenders, all joints. Also this time my Creeping Death turret was ready with Tamiya barrel and used black pastels on the barrel joints and brake.I like the effect, seems more like a grey panzer on the Eastern front in FEB.43 .To apply the pastel I used q-tips for weld seems, paint brush for hatches, vents, and smaller details. For the edges, corners, barrel joints I used my finger, keeping in mind a ready supply of paper towels and water.if the coat was to dark a damp towel lightly applied would remove the color,This is also the most time consuming part,go slow and remember the damp towel and to wipe finger often, and use one finger only. For the exhaust mufflers I went straight from primer to pastels red.orange and brown. The puffer caps got a coat of flat black, and for now here are some pictures.Sax

Do you realize how much I hate this uniform and all it stands for. ( Cross of Iron )
Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Thanks Steiner,I am going to apply the ronseal. The pictures really don't do it justice, the greys are very supple and deep. The flash just makes every thing glow. The ronseal should tone it down a bit,did you like the kill marker on the barrel,i saw it on a picture of a Panther and found the decals in a drawer at the local shop, had to coat with sealer to get them to stay together as they are very old.Sax

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
now thats looking real good mate real good, the colors compliment each other very well and the decals are spot on once you get a coat of ronseal on the tank the colors will really come to life, hang in there and this is gonna be a great piece.
so!!! how do you think its starting to look and are you happy with your method of painting and has that little voice in the back of your head the one that says HMMMMM ( i"m not happy with this ) disappeared yet
........................cheers oz.
one more thing mix up enough ronseal to spray the belly of your tank when its dry take a look and see if you are happy with the mix and the way its gone on then mix up more and spray the whole tank, its best to spray 2 or 3 thin coats instead of one thick coat.

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
As always I'm grateful for your in-site and advise, and yes this time I LIKE IT.The ronseal is rather thick I tested it out on the rear mud flaps and think I'm good with 18psi,I have been working outside as the weather has been great, cool and sunny.I have decided to wait until morning to spray the ronseal out side.Much easier to see and the wife does not complain. The black pastels really look good, the pictures just don't do justice, the exhaust guards look metallic in the photo but they are really perfect in tone,The decals were a little difficult even though I used a decal bonding spray, the balkankreuz are wrong and did not do well,I will change to the white Balkankreuz before spraying.cheers for now,Blake
