up late again ? sounds good to me not sure what you mean by pinwash its above and beyond old chap wot wot ,,,,,PainlessWolf wrote:Afternoon, CH,
Funny you should mention scale details, I was just asking Frynsdad about this yesterday. This tank is going to get a light coat of primer, some black outlines for carry through of the top coat which will be 2 light coats of olive drab followed by a pinwash. I shouldn't lose any fine detail if I am careful. I'm going for the fresh out of the Repair Depot look with this one. A tank that has seen some use then been gone over and refurbed in a Field Depot. What do you think?

28th Day: In between bouts of coughing and hacking, I managed to get a small amount of work done that was turret related. A cautionary note on kits, check for fitment before blythly gluing bits into place. Several times, I had to file and drill and that was just with the small amount of handle, lifting mount and aerial base I accomplished. Pictures:

Hi Painless looking good.
I think the Schumo accessories are designed for the Tamiya M4A3 which may explain why they don't fit exactly. The turrets are very similar and sellers will often advertise them as suitable for the HL M4, which they are. I really like the Schumo accessories and use them a lot. They are a bit pricey for some things but I think the detail and quality are great.

29th Day: I believe that you are completely correct, Scalawag. These kit parts fit, look and function great once installed. Mounting points need some work is all. I'm taking a break today. I'll be back up to speed in a few days.

Man Painless she's really coming along now you got all your bits sorted
I just got my SHERMAN from the demon den that is MATO MART.... so will probably start in on her... as I don't really feel like putting my KV under paint yet... for some reason I like looking at all the raw details I made for her
Back to the SHERMAN... I just wondered why no one ever spoke about how difficult those MATO duckbilled T49 tracks are to install
what I thought would be a hours adventure... turned into a four hour drudge
.... I would say the worse part is pulling the pre installed connecter pin ...lucky the set came with spare parts... as I broke one of the teeth....so no MATO wheels for me... not enough spare track to get enough track slack
The silver lining would be that I know how to do it now.... the dark cloud is that the second time was no easier than the first
Have a good one Painless

30thDay: Alpha, Dave would probably set you up with some Spares, that or Sass if he has a few llinks laying about. Practice makes perfect, Say!, how come I'm not perfect!? *chuckles* Anyhoo, Doc confirmed I've got Pneumonia today when I visited so a lot of scrips and I am laid up for a couple.of days. I am doing research again on the M4A3(105). I think I figured out a way to make hatch springs out of piano wire, non working but scale. Will let you know how it goes.

Hi Painless, I hope you are feeling better soon. It is at least a good time to work on the old Sherman. Hang in there.

Sorry to hear you are poorly Painless, hope you are feeling better soon.
Re: 1944 M4A3 105mm
Not a Problem Painless...I'll contact the demons and see it they will do anything...they did with my T34 tracks... so I'll see how they handle this....It was a package deal as MATO doesn't sell the high end HENG LONG...they repackage the low end model... install metal gearboxes and throw in the T49 tracks instead of giving the HENG LONG metal tracks... otherwise I probably would have got them from DavePainlessWolf wrote:30thDay: Alpha, Dave would probably set you up with some Spares, that or Sass if he has a few llinks laying about. How did you get Pneumonia ?

I'm sure you're aware of this trick for making springs...get some brass stock... usually a brazing rod works.... and get some of those old style "twisties" that used to come with garbage bags and the such.... just wind it around the brazing rod... as tight and as evenly as possible... when the pull it off the brazing rod ... the windings will shrink together ...cut to length and before you know it ...you have springs
Take care of yourself Painless
