Personally, I like your first choice; I think the 1:1 Buff:Khaki mix comes up the best both in full colour and black-and-white. Trust your gut, though!

Yup, first choice looks the part for me too.

Painted in the camouflage. I decided to go with the gut and went for the 1:1:2 mixture. It’s tone and brightness change a lot depending upon the lighting. Interesting to see it. Here are some photos of the progress.

In the evening shade:

Under fluorescent lighting:

Same paint for RAL 7027 on a black background:

Hell of a change in hue mate, depending on the lighting.
I did no where near the experimenting with colour refraction as you have, but my Pz IV coated in straight XF-59 Desert Yellow changed hue after several days, & to be honest , looks a far better alternative to 'Dunkelgelb' than the XF-60 that is supposed to be for it.!

The XF-59 seems to react to the sun very differently to the Dark Yellow..............
I almost think you have solved the secret of what '131' may have looked like in real life at the time :shifty: :shifty:

XF-59 as an alternative to XF-60 for Dunkelgelb, eh? I'll have to remember that for future builds. I like your PzIV.

The 8020 in this build is straight out of a Tamiya recommendation. But, their recommendation for 7027 didn't have any green in it. So, I had to play with it. 8|

But, it has changed color a bit as it sits. It also seems that paint airbrushed on and paint brushed on have slightly different hues. I had to do some touchups. I did it with a brush and you can see a slight hue difference. Maybe that will settle over the next week or so.

Really need to find some desert to put this in. Green grass is not its best background. :haha:

Painted the tools and rusted the exhaust.

Darker wood on the tools is Tamiya’s Deck Brown Linoleum (XF-79) with a light Clear Orange (X-26) wash. The lighter wood color is Tamiya’s Deck Tan Wooden (XF-78) with a light Clear Yellow (X-24) wash. The handle on the jack is Flat Earth (XF-52).

The cable is the twisted wire that comes in the Schumo kit. It’s basically just picture wire. I toned it down a little with two washes. The first is a wash with German Grey (XF-63) with about a 2:1 mixture of solvent to paint. The second wash used Flat Earth in a 4:1 mixture of solvent to paint.

The rust on the exhaust is actual rust. I let a small paint mixing dish sit with water in it. Once it was a slurry with very little water, I brushed that around on the exhaust. Then, you can brush off any excess rust. Some of it will soak into the paint when the water softens the paint.
