It has been 50 years in the making, but Mike has been the inspiration for my modeling (not with a bikini). He has always encouraged me to build models. There might be exaggerated stories of my early attempts to improve his models....

But I truly thank Mike for his rubbing off this model thing on me!

Please disregard anything Mike will follow up with, I tell you it is all lies. I was the perfect younger brother.
Unless you have pictures. It never happened!

I've not had much time lately, too many other projects....

I figured I owed a picture of how it looks with the hull pieces painted and assembled.

Thank you Sir Tox!

While at my daughter's place, I did some searching on the web I found Evergreen Scale Model's web catalog. I was unsure how to build the half round bumper at the deck level. I did not know they made such an item, but ended up ordering 4 packages (guessing how many 14" pieces I needed for the big dukw). Also found a cut to order metal supplier for my "A" frame crane. I ordered two 2 foot by 1/4" tubes. I have not found measurements of how high they were so I'll just have to guesstimate based on the pictures I found. Also decided to remake the upper winch brackets as I don't feel the plastic is going to hold up well to the weight on the crane.

I buy bulk styrene from this guy in the US: https://www.ebay.com/str/modelpartsands ... 3561.l2563

They have flat bar, round, tube, square bar, half round, L-channel, I-beam, and sheet all in bulk/variety packs. MUCH cheaper than Evergreen stuff.

Didn't plan of doing the whole winch bracing and cable guides in brass....
But, I felt the added strength at the rear on such a large and heavy model would be worth the extra effort as a bumper or to keep from breaking things if it takes a hit. The uprights and lower mount are one piece. Next up the A frame crane and mounts.

Crane is mostly complete. Did some testing.

According to the books I have, one in five DUKWs was equipped with the crane. All were equipped with the crane mounts. The A-frame could be stored under the cargo deck.

I love how slowly that winch spools out & in. You're doing such a great job on this build!
