Herman,
*chuckles* Mother of Invention, etc, etc. when it comes to RC Tanks. I made the torsion bar trailing arms for the KV-2 suspension out of steel picture hangers. They are not seen so I wasn't too worried about what they were just that they were durable and functioned. Detail parts tho', yeah, I hunt high and low and if I can't find it, I will make it and if I can't make it to where I am satisfied with the appearance, I don't use it. ( Usually about the time I reach that stage, Alpha or Sassgrunt ping me with the part or a simple how-to on it ) I try to pay things forward. So, for your periscope lenses, try some thick clear 3M doublestick tape. I use the removable stuff. It can be easily trimmed to size and is self adhesive so no glue needed. You can make blocks with it by adding layers. Takes paint well as long as a good coat is used. Just something to mull over. I see the resin periscopes for sale at places ranging from Welsh Dragon to Axel's Modelbau if you want to go that route. Definitely a dry brush is called for on the WW. A straight edge bristle brush like a mini broom. I'm looking forward to see your paint work.
regards,
Painless

Did a bit of archive surfing & found this from a memeber :

http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... 95&t=11011

Its unit specific to D.R. but the timing is also right for 505 Tigers. Gotta hand it to Mr Jussek, great details on unit vehicles numbers & build variations.

I also found a few more pics of '100' that I can use other than the subject picture, including one with its turret reversed as a cassion for a passed German Soldier/crewman.
The pictures are an interesting evolution of '100' and show it in progressive stages of its early career.
Photos found on "Tiger Im Focus"
downside is now I am in two minds about the second unditching pole that is not visible in my subject photo, but could very likely be on the left side.
I think I should get this done before I just get a worse dose of "analysis-paralysis" 8| :O

Bare in mind its entirely possible, in fact highly likely that more than one Tiger in 505 wore the 100 tactical markings, hence the variation. All it would take is the tank marked 100 to be destroyed or sent away for repairs and the company leader will take a working tank, plaster 100 on the side and take that. It was a fairly common occurrence.

I would say go with your gut feeling, pick one variation you like and do that one or you'll be deciding for ever and its extremely unlikely you'll ever find the correct facts unless you get a copy of 505's unit diary. At least you don't have the confusion with LAH where they not only renumbered tanks to a different set of markings but painted many of them at least 3 times!!

Yep, very likely. The unit records that I have found when put next to the pictures in the Tiger Im Focus site with the timeline dates they virtually forensically analise to identify these tanks dont match the loss rate/replacement rate.
So its more of a simple case of evolving terrain, crew mambers, unit comanders etc etc etc. The whims and requirements of war.
The subject picture I chose at the start has all I wanted, but its great to see other images of the same vehicle in that unit at differing stages of its life.
The grey/cam combination is now firmly vindicated and will be gelb/braun patches(no green)

Ive been a little lucky in the sense that I had only 1 Tiger to focus on, but its been a quest for more and more info on it. Thank goodness for the Tiger Im Focus site is all I can say.
Along the way I have stumbled across ideas for my next 2 projects (not Tigers), and that has diverted a bit of direction.
I know that if/when the next Tiger comes along its going to need Zimmerit, and that is already giving me a headache :'(

H/L have released the Henshel turret King Tiger down here, so THAT might mean a huge headache @)

I am thinking zim, maybe mid production? I am currently doing my bovington 131 and want to try something a little different with the metal taigen I got. The tiger in focus site is great , and I have got a few books so far. But there are so many variations, and so many unknowns regarding specific tanks, I just need to pick one and run with it. But still, no huge hurry as the current one is taking enough time up as is :) cheers Herman , looking forward to seeing more of your tiger.

Well............I took the plunge and mixed the yellow paint for the patches. Used a 50/50% XF60 and XF55 mix with 50% thinners.
Used a new mix pottle with the mls marks on the side. 5mls of each colour and 10mls of thinners.
Stirred and tipped into the airbrush pot.
Sat with gun in hand, sun warming the scene..................and just drew a blank !

Regather my senses & hit the toggle for the first patch.
Happy days, the wind started. Just because this was me outside trying to put yellow paint on a grey tank :-< I a growing gale.
Well, bugger it, Im going ahead with it.
Outlined the first patch on the centre left hull side & went from there.
Infilled with pressure slightly raised to offset the gusts !
Made a concious effort to stick to 'less is more'.
Of course there is a bit of basic weathering to do and then the WW and snow/mud effects & matt seal , so I optimistic its going to end up right.

Happy with the result if a little unconvinced of the style as yet.
Will see how it drys overnight & do the Rotbraun tomorrow.

What do you collectively think ?
i'm a big boy, I can cope :problem:

What do I think? Herman I am staggered that Brissie actually has inclement weather, I know it is called the Gold coast and I know that many people think it is because every one there is incredibly rich! But I have always thought it was the wall to wall sunshine, and getting your excuses in first by blaming an imaginery wind for what you think could be a bad paint job has failed, because it looks pretty damn good, although I am squinting from the UK with the sun in my eyes  shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
