Hi,
the black barrel is´nt black iron.
The black appearance comes from the coating with heat-resistant paint.
I think the shade dark anthracite / charcoal is the best one.

Your build thread reminds me that I also have a Jagdtiger that desperately wants to be finished:

( I know the barrel isn't iron actually but was under the impression that it was left in a raw steel state and oiled or summat to bring out the black colorization ) Heat resistant paint. *hmmmms* Time for a trip to the hardware store to check through engine paints. Your all metal one is looking great! It should make a beautiful Runner!

Dunkelgrau with just the primer inside the hatches looks MEAN: it’s a MEAN MACHINE.
Pardon the density: were there Jagdtiger in Dunkelgrau? Were there bare barrels? (All these books and I still have simple questions.)

there was never a Jagdtiger in dark grey.
This is an invention of the Chinese, who did not know how to paint the HL Jagdtiger...

I mentioned it earlier in the Build. I'm going with a dark grey because of all the B&W newsreel footage and _wartime_ photos of these monsters in real life. Otherwise, I would have went with the Dunkelgelb or left it in Rottbraun primer or maybe even camoflauge. The black barrel will be an add on of my own as well. What paint scheme or primer do you plan to use on yours, Jhamm?

Primer becomes tamiya red brown
and the typical late 1944 three color camo like this:
Without the damage and not so much weathered.
My is a very late one, like the Kubinka JT.

I'll keep an eye out for the Build to continue. It looks to be quite the piece of eye-candy once completed. ;o)

I have seen that you also build very beautiful models.
Your KT will certainly also be an eye-catcher.

A hazy and quiet Saturday afternoon gave me an hour plus to do the black barrel on the Jagdtiger. With some cool black paint with a ceramic additive I found at the local Automotive store, I was ready to go. It took longer to tape together the overspray shroud than to do the actual spray. A wipe with a lint cloth and a light coat of Tamiya grey primer made for a nice and smooth surface to followup with the black ceramic paint. Once everything is cured, I can do any brushup and cleanup needed.
