Good point. Can't answer that. During the read along it was summaries that only a few units actually are seen in pictures with this feature. On the other hand tracks were spare parts with only very limited lifetime -not even considering tank lifespan here-.
Have another issue, that already bothered me on the other Panthers. But with the lower sitting road wheels it is even more obvious. The idler sits too high. Basically the idler mount should be just elow the rearward access door. On the Taigen hull it is more or less the center. And than you can't move the arm to the full vertical a the screw is too short. Maybe a longer version can do.

Wow Soeren that is such a spectacular job. Your color combinations work just perfectly and the spare track links and road wheels make for an interesting look.

I can confirm that the Taigen Idler arm is wrong, I am using a Torro as my base for the Ausf D and noticed pretty quickly when the replacement early idlers arrived

The arm should be more of an S shape, here is an image

Bear in mind that the panther in the picture is an Ausf A and is using the early type idler wheel

Do you know how many track links per side there are on the Taigen Panther? it should be 86

Hey Carl, thank you very much. It is now looking like a Panther. Still a lot of stuff to do for plenty of updates ;)

Cheers STHV, indeed the shape of the idler arm is wrong too. Although that wouldnt cause the issue. It is just mounted too high on the hull and thus males it look odd and work differently. At least, after removing the nut on the adjustment screw, I was able to move it to sit vertical now, with the idler wheel being at its lowest setting possible. Repositioning of the idler would require some real surgery.

The track links are OK as you describe. The Meng Panther kits wants you to do 87 links. Have to look up the correct number in the resources. But with the ill sitting idler you would most likely need more links than was really used.

This is it with one track on. I plan to swap every third link with the winter version that I put on the Jagdpanther and that caused me so much trouble. I can the file out each whole in the link before final assembly. The Jagdpanther will then get new set of tracks one day. By this I will also have plenty pare tracks to put on tanks.

I am looking forward to see you work your magic on this one, too.
Was just browsing for the mantlet mod pictures and again came across Mr. Raminators comment.

Spare tracks, they would be scrap if damaged or worn out. Suppose the ones hung opposite way round had lost the guide horns.

Hey there Ronnie, that sounds like another reasonable option. Does any of you guys know of a written evidence for the use and reason for the track links? Is spares the true reason ist it additional protection? In a journal I once read about the location of the links on the hull sides on the back, that these provided some protection for the fuel tank and engine compartment. According to various sources the vulnerability of the sides of this tank were well known.

Now to something different. In one of the previous posts I asked for a source for a proper muzzle break and I couldn't find any. Well, this has changed now because ABER offers one now. I am sure they just waited for the Trumpeter kit to be released to have a wider group of interest. This is on order and I hope to get it soon. Not cheap, but pictures of it look fantastic. Stay tuned.

Hi Soeren The muzzles Aber make are nice, is it a kit or one piece ?
