The Queens Buff Regiment aside, I played around with Sculptris, took a while to figure out how to get the shapes and build that I wanted, but I am getting there.

I am printing him, and if he comes out ok, I'll see if I can do body parts.... :S

That looks pretty good. I hope it prints well.

This may be where you started, but I found this head http://www.sharecg.com/v/55159/browse/5 ... el/Face-01

I used a different one, but changed it totally, just used it for a basic skill shape really. I also reduced the number of polygons drastically to see what the effect would be on the printed version. It lost about 30% of the fine detail, but once painted my guess is that it will look ok.

This is straight off the printer, so needs a little light sanding. From 20ft away across a battlefield it will pass.

The best bet for 3D printed figures might be ripping character models from video games; they'd already be rigged to pose, too. Company of Heroes has British tankers and artillerymen that would fit the bill.

How would you do that?

It'll depend on the engine, and I'm not super familiar with modding CoH. There's a tool to extract files from the game's archives (which I used to rip the sounds), but the 3D models themselves need to be decompiled or converted.

It looks like this tool may be able to convert the game's .rgm files into something usable by most 3D modelling suites. From there, I'd assume it should be possible to convert it to something 3D-printable.

I feel like this is a case of having to sit in one of those chairs from the first Matrix film & getting up/downloaded with a huge probe to the base of the scull    :shifty:

I now have my Verlinden Commando figure. I think it may almost be an antique! It was actually made in Belgium and had a price sticker on it for 57.95 Deutschmarks 8O

What it does mean is I have legs, torso, arms and a head which are British. All I need now is a means to convert them into printable figures.

There's a smart phone app that'll turn it into a 3d scanner. Not brilliant quality, but could be enough to then clean it up?
