Oh its easy to make 700hp with a blown 440 but the thing is you'll get like 2 gallons per mile (yes I said that right) where as with the new stuff you'd get 18 miles per gallon. Then there's what I like to call the BS factor, with the older stuff you're ALWAYS under the hood doing some kind of BS work while with the newer stuff you're not.
Not an old car hater my list of cars I owned include a 1968 Dodge Dart GT, 1970.5 Pontiac Trans Am RAIV, 1972 Pontiac Trans Am SD, 1972 Pontiac Formula 400 Firebird, 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo w454, 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo w454, 1977 Chevrolet Impala 2 NASCAR rear window version, 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th anni car, 1979 Chervrolet Malibu Classic, 1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am, 1980 Chevrolet Malibu Classic, 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am, 2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, 2004 Chevrolet Caviler (long work commute car), 2004 BMW M3 (HUGE steaming pile of crap car!) and now my 2009.5 Pontiac G8 GT.
Out of all of those cars my G8 stands out as what I would label "THE BEST" simply due to the drive train.
And yes I did say the BMW M3 was crap. It was beautiful and had the best interior and rode better then any of my other cars only problem was it couldn't go more then a month without breaking down! I'd get in it to go to work or where ever and the car wouldn't crank over. 3 different BMW dealers tried for over a year to fix it before I got rid of it and got my G8. $62,000 and it couldn't start or stay running, JUNK!

I like the Aussie Chrysler stuff, pretty cool looking all of it. Valiant Chargers are one of my favs.
Cars I've had.. wow... Let's see. Of note: a 1966 Valiant 4dr, 1973 Chevy Nova 4dr, 1979 Z-28 with race stuff, my '69 Dart and my Charger. I've driven a lot of beaters but not even going to mention them, I've had at least 10 more cars. Anyway, I'm 30yo, plenty of more time left to own more cars, haha.
My daily driver is pictured in that thread as well, a very rare Caliber SRT4. Only about 5700 were ever made and sold world wide. 285 hp factory at 7lbs boost, and I run 17.5 lbs boost so I must be over 300 hp and a bit over 20mpg if I'm careful to stay out of the boost with all my highway driving. The car glides like glass at high speed and will do 160mph factory limited, clips on youtube of guys driving their cars at 160. My limiter is removed and my RPM limit raised so I have a top mechanical speed of 180mph but who knows if the car can get up that fast. I've got brand new Y rated yoko tires and reconditioned wheels so I know the tires are good for 186mph at least.
Modern cars are do it all, performance, decent fuel mileage and amazing handling and high speed performance. At least half of my motivation for a blower is style. I'm sure with a 6.4l Hemi with a centrifugal supercharger or turbo I'd make crazy performance with great fuel mileage but that's not the goal anyway. I'm sure if all I wanted was performance it would be cheaper to go with a new modern race car rather than building this Charger. I've seen guys with EFI on a 426 Hemi get away with over 15mpg though! If I can afford the EFI I will definitely go that route. Blower EFI is a lot more than a carb setup though. Roots blowers are terribly inefficient but you can't beat the look.
True about BMW as well. My "mother in law" is a BMW owner, several cars now. They are always breaking down and are always in the shop and it's super expensive to fix them all the time.

We just bought my daughter a Caliber R/T, white with silver and blue interior nice little car.
As for my G8 its running the stock 6.0 with a Vararam intake, 1 7/8 Kooks stainless long tube headers, no cats, custom mid pipe, Solo axle backs (no mufflers at all) lowered with Eibach Sport Lines on FE3 struts, BMR mounts, DBA drilled and slotted rotors, lite weight Concept One wheels. Car was dyno tuned and puts down 360 at the rear wheels with just a handfull of bolt ons and runs VERY consistant 12.6 1/4 miles and has hit 12.5 four times now, and has seen 180mph twice. I LOVE my G8 GT!!! Other mods include GXP front bumper, GXP rear diffuser, Spyder LED tail lights, 6k HID, all the bulbs on the car have been replaced with LED's. Also running 2 12" JL audio subs and an Alpine bass engine amp.

That is one sexy machine, I was hoping you would post pics.
Very impressive 1/4 mile times too, way faster than I would figure with that car!
I was just at the dragstrip a few weeks ago with my SRT4. I can't pull 1/4 mile times for crap.
My best of two runs was 14.97 at 102 mph on all season tires. That's terrible considering that stock SRT4 Calibers will run 13.9 on slicks at 7lbs boost. I'm still happy I got over 100mph trap speed my first time at the track, that's still very fast even if my ET sucks. Getting traction with FWD is a bitch, all that power and no where to put it. On that run I had a .005 reaction time too, the car just can't get out of the box on all season tires, even expensive Y rated sport tires. My new tires are leaps ahead of the "stock" Eagle F1's on the car though. The lack of a posi doesn't help much either but I'm not building a race car out of the Caliber, that's what the Charger is for. I'd rather funnel money into the Charger and that's what I've been up to.
I'll find my recent track slips if I can and share them.

Actually my wife has the Insignia, well the last gen one anyway. She has a 2007 Saturn Aura XR 3.6 mostly stock but she does have cross drilled slotted rotors and EBC pads, Eibach springs and 6k HID. Here's a pic of what her's looks like but this isn't hers.

Why thank you sir, I sure like her.
Tires can do only 1 thing at a time, accelerate, turn, or brake if you try to have them do more then 1 thing at a time both things suffer. FWD cars can not accelerate any where NEAR as well as RWD cars can this is due to weight transfer as I'm SURE you know. Nail the gas from a dead stop and the weight transfer to the rear of the car, this is perfect for RWD cars however is the reason why FWD cars can't launch any where near as well. True you can get them to hook up some what but as you know it can never be as good, simple physics.
Your Charger should do fantastic at the track as thats what it was built for, point and shoot style racing, drag racing!
BTW I'd be willing to bet you that your Charger weighs less then my G8 does, according to the certified CAT scales I took my car to she's 4050 lbs without my 240 lbs inside it.
