could be worth a try and might save you some money
Yeah that was me. Putting both the gun smoke and the exhaust smoke shouldn’t really overwhelm anything. The biggest thing I’d worry about is overloading the circuit leading through the slip joint (they usually can only sustain 1.5 to 2 amps per circuit/wire pair). It appeared to have its own dedicated VCC and ground running through the slip joint, so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Just so we are clear, I have never done the Y harness on the smoker port of a V3 personally, but I don’t really see a reason why it wouldn’t work or damage anything. While heaters do use more amps than a lot of the components you would find in the a 1/16 RC tank, besides the drive and traverse motors, I don’t think it would be so much as to cause any issues. I have two standard sized (meant for 1/16 scale) heaters hooked up in my 1/8 model and I was worried that together they were going to use more amps, along with other components, that what I allotted through the slip ring, but I remember it not being that much, comparatively, when I measured it with a multimeter.

The JST XH Y harness will save you some major bucks (like $5 versus ~$300 plus an RX/TX) for sure if all you care about is having both exhaust and gun smoke. This is assuming that there is already a gun smoke card in the model that just needs power running to it. Was that ever established? I forgot, and I’m too lazy to go back and dig through the posts.

The gun smoke card is not fitted unfortunately.
Turns out that is an extra .
I got smoke to come out of the barrel when I plugged it directly into the smoker port but it was not controlled by gunfire.
The owner had email confirmation from the supplier that it needs the Taigen sub board to make the barrel smoke work and by the looks of the MFU would also need a Y- joiner cable.
I would believe that if a sub board was purchased a wiring diagram would accompany it.

I have what i hope to be the circuit board for the gun smoke getting delivered, at some point i will try to fit the recoil/muzzle flash unit i bought but that will be later on.

Okay then you may not need the Y harness then. I believe their gun smoke card plugs into the daughter board found in the turret, I think that’s what I read anyways, I have never fitted one before.

Ok but, how much would a full set of elmod electronics roughly cost? Thank you!

Well…

The card itself is around $250-$300

Then if you want to have gun smoke, that’s another card, around $30-$40

Then if you want to use more than one servo, or a gun station, or extra lights or blinkers, that’s another card, that’s another $40-$50

If you want to use it with a HL tank, that’s another board, around $15, although with a bit of wiring know how you could get around having to have this.

These prices are all off the top of my head, and in US currency, not Euros. I think the biggest retailer of ElMod is rctank.de. No one sells ElMod state side.

It’s expensive, no buts about it. However, you can modify just about any electronic related property on tank easily through an app, load and play extra sounds easily. It’s just very easy to use. Also plug and play, no soldering or cutting or crimping.

I’ve no idea about Beier, but I know it is well liked.

OpenPanzer is a little cheaper, but you’re still going to be buying an extra board for sound and for gun smoke. While you can use OP for 1/16, what sets OP apart for me is it’s great if you need to use ESCs for larger scale models. The sound board (DasMikro Mini) is a bit of a pain in the ass, and its functionality is nowhere near ElMods sound capabilities.

Will definently consider that if i get a mato tank.

FWIW this is what the setup looks inside the turret of the stock Torro with servo barrel recoil, elevation, smoke and flash-

That’s how it be. I’ve got a Taigen Sherman with all the standard internals plus an ElMod MFU, their gun smoke card with heater and blower, barrel flash, a VTX and FPV camera… it’s like Tetris trying to fit everything in there and get it to shut all the way.
