Good Morning, Jarndice!
The aerial mount on this Panzer IV is almost as fiddly ( but not quite ) as the external swivel mount used for the StuG III Ausf B. That one was cast in resin and while I got it to work reliably, mounting the trough for it required soldering PE strips to make the mount. *laughs* It is worth it when something is scale and works like it is supposed to. ( I suppose ;o) This turret showed up without one of the access door stops. Dave and Julie are sending a set once they have returned home. I am waiting for a set of the early headlights and a couple of metal road wheels for the build from them as well. You and I both know that it is sometimes a case of 'Hurry Up and Wait' when working on these tanks. ;o) I plan on hanging around another 40 years barring misfortune so should see all of my slated builds completed and have a good look at the latest whizzbangs coming down the line. ;o)

Thanks for following along! That MG is a beaut', I agree! ;o) Tank Modelbau parts are the new Wecohe standard. The turret MG is from them as well and should add some eye candy to the build once I get it hooked up.

I had just a few minutes to fiddle with the Panzer last night and started test fitting some of the deck add-ons to see what I could reuse from the HL set. I was able to reuse the side deck step and I think that I will be able to bring the smoke candle box over and put some candles in it for detailing purposes. I received the oil drums and Jerry cans yesterday and they will look great on this tank when it is all set up for a long cruise through the 'Blue' One thing that I really want is the _EARLY_ Rear Convoy Light ( not the late War tube version ) If anyone has a working one in spares or knows of where one might be located, please PM me. ( like where did the rest of Andreas' stock from his site end up?)

Made bold by the success of locating an Early War Rear Convoy Lamp for the Panzer, I took some time tonight to carefully attach the turret MG to the Daughter board by way of a Deans connector. Some soldering later, it worked just fine sans resistor. Knowing that the solder job would be subjected to stress by virtue of the turret rotating, I got out the hot glue gun and put a couple of small blobs on the solder joints on the Daughter board. I used the existing wire guide at the front of the deck underside to help route the wiring off of the connector. Should be fine now.

I know that Heng Long include a rear light and a slot for its location above the right hand rear fender BUT there is no historical evidence that the Panzer 4 from its Ausf A upto its Ausf J versions wore such a fitting,
I have seen one photograph that appeared to show the right hand rear light but further research revealed that the picture was of a model, And please don't anybody show pictures of museum PZ4s with such add ons we should all of us by now be aware of the failings in accuracy in museum exhibits.
And just because heng long include the fitting and a slot for it do remember that until the latest Taigen PZ4 body the sole rear reflector on the left rear fender was not included nor any kind of slot for it on Heng Long or Taigen PZ4 and yet every PZ4 ran with a reflector on the fender and a single rear multi-lense hinged light unit was mounted above it,

Now you see why I am all the happier for having sourced a working rear Convoy light. It along with the reflector on the rear fender will provide all the needed ( and accurate ) eye candy out back. ;o) More fun to follow!

I got my regular BNA update this morning and while I would like a few Panzer 4 crewmen I did not realise that I was going to have to pay their years salary so I just shook my head and moved on to ordering Heng Longs own CHEAP figures.

There are some really good resin figures available in the 30-40 euro range on the German sites. I would love to have a set of the BNA figures but I was told this weekend that it's time to replace the shower... 0>
