Good Afternoon, Jack,
Thank you, Sir. Inspiration comes from looking at something molded on and realizing how cool it would be if it moved, lit up, made noise, was reproduced in metal, etc. as represented on the original vehicle. Parts have to be sourced or like last night's mantlet cover frame, built to match. You do a great job on your tanks so I know you are coming from the same place as the rest of us. ;o) There's fun to be had in running our tanks once they are done but there is also a wealth of fun and satisfaction in bringing them to the point where they match the vision of how they should be, in our mind's eye.

After doing all that bead work I don't blame you ...I think I'd be close to being blind after doing one row

Good Morning ( early )
For the little bit that got done, I was surprised to see four+ hours had gone by. Even now, I may end up drilling out the holes in the hinge larger and using a pair of miniature collets that came with the Tamiya screw bag to give a smoother opening movement but we will see. They are on and they work. ;o) Pictures:

This isn't the full on Spring job that Maxene got. I futzed up a reasonable looking connector from the (much nicer molded set than the ones on the Sherman version of the hatch) springs to the hinge mount. They move with the hatch when it opens so I am happy. ;o)

Wouldn't be able to tell Painless... both springs look great...like the addition of the hinge pin too

A last tiny bit of detailing to the hinges on the Loader's hatch and the turret detailing is done save for the .50 cal. That is a build in and of itself so I'm saving it for the weekend. Started the work on the rear lower hull and there are pinned cable mounts and a working barrel travel lock courtesy of Tamiya. I'm still looking at the phone box to see what may be done to hinge it. It may be too fragile to have a working box on the rear hull where it will take a beating from grass and lawn nonsense. Pictures:

Ya got me Mr Painless................who would have thought these 'contemporary' AFV's could manifest such detail & character ?
You must have fingers like needles (or like Mr Hugills) to consistently pull off these functional details.
A period picture of one of these machines did not hold my attention like a similar one from a different theatre/period, untill I got to see the fundamentals of what makes them what they are.....................
The PERSHING, THE m51'S etc etc.................when you guys put the extraordinary effort into them that makes them stand out, thats the beginning of the learning curve for 'heathens' like me
