Good Morning,
Opinion on the rear deck lifting eyes, Alpha? I slept on it and they are a little outsized as I view the ones on the research Trumpeter KV-2. I will probably unscrew them and make some out of solder or wire. Yours, I will leave alone as they are a good fit up front. Also, I may just use them for all the lifting eyes as everything will be the same size then.

How astute Painless...thought you had a reason for them... as I know you will or might add some stowage...so admittedly I was perplexed whether or not I should say ....the other eyelets on the center cover ... was an issue when I did mine... left them off...because I couldn't find any documentation that proved that they were there... I think you are using the same book as I did for reference .... I don't recall any of the photos of the rear deck having them... of course it was of the Soviet version...so it could be said that the Germans did a mod.. put the rings there for convenience ... and got rid of the short cable that was attached to the center pot ( I didn't put mine on yet lol)

Anyway...it's kind of nitpicky.. didn't really want to go there

Alpha,
You are reading my mind on the German modifications. I read but have found no pictures of additional rings being added where those two bolts to either side are to assist in lifting that freaking heavy armored engine cover for maint. by the Germans crews doing repairs on the Captures. The other eyes are just too big. It's a pity as I thought that I had found a workable solution. Maybe if I had found eyes half the size. I might look at a hardware store famous for odd items this coming weekend, McGuckins in Boulder. Nitpicky is fine. I never learn if I am not lead to reconsider my sometimes half baked ideas.

I did notice Pale put them on his KV 1...and I almost copied .... But I swear... I went through Sass's book a few times before deciding not to ...The other eyes I agree with you... to be honest I even thought Pale's was a little large...but sometime exaggerating a detail isn't a bad thing...as it highlights the work you did do...think you are on the right track though... making rings out of brass stock will give you something more workable

On an extreme note....I did send you enough of those eyelets... pull off the two on the center hatch... replace the picture hoops and make a long crossbar type handle for the engine cover...it might make more sense... as I really can't imagine they would hook chains to lift that cover it would just add to the task... and at the time the Germans did try to do some things to better a machine ...or make it similar in operation to their own....a solid crossbar would allow for two crew members to lift that cover in one stroke

Alpha, apologies not needed. How would I improve or learn if my work was never questioned? ;o) I spent the afternoon changing out the overly large rear deck lifting eyes for some scratch made wire ones formed by being curled around a toothpick and glued into place in the holes left by the others. I left the silver lifting eyes where they are for now. I may revisit them on the engine hatch in the future. I filled some holes and scratches with putty then decided to mount the pistol port plug on the rear hatch. Pictures:

Greetings Painless... I wouldn't be sure if it's the camera angle..but the lift rings do look improved That pistol port is something else... never knew they sold those separately ...very nice touch...
All in all look almost complete... sooooooooooooo.... Wednsday under paint?

Those lifting eyes should look better. *chuckles* They are roughly smaller than half the size of the screw in type I started out with. That An-Bri-RC-Modellbau shop has a lot of hard to find parts for tanks and armored vehicles. Some vehicles as well like you noted, several types of flakpanzer resin kits. He has figures too that are apart from the ordinary. I need to source a Commander and a Driver so will be looking over his stuff again today. I still need to work on the MGs and start painting tools and accessories so maybe primer by this weekend.
