In the 60s I was in Singapore for a while,
One of the places that I served at was RAF Changi (Now Singapore International Airport),
Every morning on my way to my Unit I would pass the flightline of 12 Meteor Target Tugs resplendent in their Silver and Fluorescent Red finish complete with winch,
They were represented by both single seat day interceptors and twin seat night fighter variants,
I know for a fact they were still hard at work in the early 70s which is quite a record of service for any military aircraft.

That would be an interesting piece of trivia - which aircraft served the longest? I'm guessing the Bf-109, as the Spanish continued to produce variants long after the war, and didn't even the Israelis have a few?

And before anyone complains, I can go off topic if I want to, I'm the thread starter!! @) @) :haha: :haha: :haha:

That surely has to be the Douglas DC3 It entered service with the USAAF in 1938 and as a constituent part of the RAFs Battle of Britain Flight is still in military service to this day.

I guess I phrased that poorly. I should have said which fighter aircraft has been in service the longest. In that case, I think it is the BF 109.

And that's a pretty good photo, Wayne, except that I have a whole lot more hair than that dude. And I'm probably much more twisted. @)

Sorry Gary I have to cheat, It is obviously the RAFs Hawker Hurricane of the Battle of Britain Flight :haha:
I Know what you meant so only joshing,
I think you are probably right about the Me 109 although I am unsure about the Israeli Air Force,
I thought they were Avia built 109s And I don't have the official designation to hand.

EDIT I have just checked and the Israeli 109s weren't if you get my meaning,
They were AVIA S-199s built in Czechoslovakia and there were 25 in the Israeli Air Force alongside a large number of Supermarine Spitfires.

Vought F4U - 1942-1979

The Avia 199's didn't last very long, while the Buchon's only lasted until the mid 1960's.

When I think of how unpopular the Corsair was within the higher echelons of the American Military it is the last Fighter aircraft I would have thought of :haha:
